ableton does, if you don't realize it it's just because you don't have many plugins..
I agree with Meta, it doesn't take too long anyway unless you've downloaded about every plugin in existence.
I suggest getting rid of vsti's you never use if you're really that bugged about it. |

I assume you mean you have a 30 gig VST folder that includes, most likely, about 28 gigs of sample libraries like Stylus or Atmosphere.
If so, that should not matter, that space is taken up by .WAV files that are not scanned. The VST plug scanner just checks the .dll files to load the plugin itself, not the stored data files.
If you have actually have 30 gigs of .dll files, you have way, way way too many VSTs and need to clean house. Most VSTs essentially make the same sounds and there is not much reason to have more than a choice selection of quality plugins.
You never really answered my question though - what are you seeing when it loads? Does it slowly pause on the name of each VST at the scan? Does it actually take 3 literal minutes - one hundred and eighty seconds - or just longer than you'd like?

It takes shorter than detection on 1st use. Im pretty sure that some proggies rescan only when told to. cant remember which.
Let me install ableton quickly to compare.
WHAT do u know. Ableton DOES NOT rescan on startup.
Generally I only use a few these days. But I used to have a lot and when I installed ableton, it searched thru that dir once, and then after that I had to tell it to, coz it didnt do it automatically.(I thought OMG what a neat idea)
It doesnt take hours, although it used to take like 3-4mins. Unaccepteable.Y cant cubase load a vst on demand when I want to use it.It knows that its there, It can complain that Ive removed it if I try load it and its not there.I think Steinberg didnt think this thru very well.
The reason I have 30Gigs of vsts is becoz Im a billionaire that likes to spend his time making psy. And no I didnt get 2 b a billionaire by lending out money. |

Surely it still has to look thru 30g of samples to find the dll's?

| No it's not.
Cubase only searches thru the Vst plugins folder and or other folders you have selected in Cubase as vst containing folders.
All samples and stuff of the instruments are if installed correctly in the C:/Program files/whateverinstrument/data folder.
And Cubase therefore doesn't search thru this. |
