Well im in my early days of producing, and i wondered,
how many out there started from complete nothing?
and i mean realy from zero, without learning on cubase or
without learning anything about music.
Cause actually this is my situation, and lately i started thinking maybe i should start by learning first and then
move on to producing?
So whats your opinion?

You should atleast get a basic understanding of music first. Scales, harmony, phrasing, musical structure, etc. Some of the complex music theory you can do without, but the basics will make things a lot easier to understand and they also aren't that hard to understand.

By the way i didnt write but i also dj and have a knwoladge of mixing and i listen about all day to music
all kinds of music.
The question is, is it a must? i figured out it would be better if i study a little music
but must i? cause now i realy feel that im not progressing any way with my producing.

Same here. I started with no knowledge at all. But been busy latly with music theory. Classical western scales, modes, progressions and so on. And that's the way I'm doing it. But I still study my DAW and different producing techniques.
How to tweak sounds and more. I think you should take your time on both music theory and producing. But it's just my advise.

If you're not progressing, it might be due to your lack of musical knowledge. You can have a good knowledge of music from djing, but if you don't really understand what is going on and why it won't matter. Even if you progress without musical knowledge right now you will probably peak and plateau sooner than if you had some musical knowledge.
Simple things like knowing minor scales are generally darker sounding and major are happier can be a tremendous help when you know that and a huge hinderance if you don't. And that is a very basic thing.

hallucinator, looking back today, what would you say: its better to learn and then produce? if you have learned music before you started producing would you be in the same place today? or maybe making better more sturctured music?

Learn as you produce... just learn how to produce the basics and slowly become more advanced... |

+1
I started after playing guitar/drums for 3-4 years, so all of the "music-ish" stuff was really easy. After that it all comes down to technical knowledge, which isn't nearly as difficult. I would hate to learn about music theory without an instrument.

Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me? |

Isn't this kind of inherent in the act?

Im with Colin on this..
I started with no knowledge of music at all , however i have learnt the guitar before producing and knew basic scales nothing very intense , then also it was all about my ears then anything else , the same is now i trust my ears!!!.. having musical knowledge is no guarantee that you will make music better then anyone else , having it makes it easier to understand some music to a degree but not always , i have never applied mine with what i do , heck even after 6 years it was only in the last 2 years i understood waveforms , adsr, filter envelopes theoretically (thanks to modular synthesis) ,most of it always came out of accidents or just immitating someone else , i dont believe anyone who says he never tried to immitate a sound someone else made , for if he says so he, you can never outline the fact that he might have done it subconciously to a certain level. Some people pick it up fast while others take time , that should Not demotivate you . Its just a matter of time untill u figure it out unarguebly being that you are committed to take the initiative to learn yourself. its common advise to listen to as many tracks you can and understand it before u sit to lay out your own
Hope that helps
