Hiya
I am intrigued by the clone robots in the new star wars series..i really dig how they have done the vocal effects with these robots..can anyone guess how they have done the sort of gated robotic voice? Is it a fast lfo on the sample?
Any ideas besides using vocoder to get a similar effect?

I'm pretty sure it's nothing but amplitude modulation. The trick is to get the right frequency (easy enough) and waveform - my guess is a golden middlepath between sawtooth and triangle - or maybe just a slightly lowpass filtered sawtooth.
Another suggestion is a very old version of Goldwave - I don't remember which one, but it has an effect called "mechanize" which, in my memory, does the job nicely.
Good luck

i just remembered (from Amygdala's words) that i made some really cool robot effects on vocal by mistake with waves mondomod.... indeed playing with the amplitude modulator.

I don't have the sound from the movie, but doesn't "roger-roger" ring a bell...?
