hi, anyone uses this?
http://store.solidstatelogic.com/catalog/31

a friend told me they are better then the waves plug ins. what do you think?

cheers

edit: sorry wrong section...

edit2: it seems this is a little bit confusing for me since there are also SSL native plugs from waves...

so what should i get? most important is EQ and compressor... maybe a multiband comp too, and anything else you strongly recommend!

i use them since years, have all of them except vocal strip, imo they were sounding slighty better on the dsp plateform, specially the bus and chanel compression.. when i first switched to the native version my first impression was it sounding more like usual software and less hardwarish.
never did real a/b , it could be placebo dunno..

imo you need something more flexible as eq ..not a consol chanel eq with just few bands and no narrow Q, it s a limitation to me but in some case it might help to not over eq.

try demo ,they both sound different, duende is the code from their digital consoles waves is emulation of a analog console. waves e chanel eq is really great..not really flexible but i like it, there is load of great plugins these day,not sure i would buy duende, even if it s there with the best..elysia,some of the spl plugs that i like a lot too, some psp ones too.. ozone..

A/Bed the Waves VS the (cheaper) Softube and I always prefered the Softube plugs.
I also prefer the Sonnox plugs to the Waves, although the API 2500 compressor, the Kramer, Masserati and Chirs Lord plugs, are very good as well.
All that is according to my ears, so make what you want of it.

Peace out.

nice that waves are more affordable they have some cool plugs indeed ,to add a few more to the ones nectarios mentionned the waves H serie is cool too ,the new H-eq for 99$ is probably a good buy, it look like one of the most intresting software eq out there, if it sound good it could be great bang for the buck

thanks guys! i see i missed some important stuff here.
so i have some more questions.

@PoM
you said those console chanel eq´s are to unflexible? so why should i buy it???
im not sure what to use now... what about the waves Q-series. i liked the sound for notching sharp.
but thats the only thing, where i heard differences...
for me they all sound the same lol^^
isnt there a eq what is versatile and have good sound?

@DH
may i ask for what sound you use the band-machine-emulation? mastering?

-which compressor do you use for sidechaining in cubase?
i use the cubase compressor because its so easy to set up,
but i feel like its not that great.

how it comes, the pro engineers use so much waves???
just one little example, if you scroll down you see the used plugs:
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/dec11/articles/it-1211.htm

the renaissance stuff seems to be used alot (R-comp/R-verb)

how can i develope my listening for EQs and Compressors?
any methods you recommend? i heard bad EQs can push freqs properly... but i never use push... because i would raise the volume and shelve the opposite freqencies.

the problem is, if im not hearing differences, i cant choose the right plugs^^

cheers

the eq sound very smiliar indeed, they all sound like plugins..imo just choose one you like to work with and that you enjoy the lp/hp filter. you need one clean eq like this for all the chiurgical work and their flexibilty is a must imo. for flexible eq you can try the waves q10, renaissance , fabfilter pro Q,ssl X-eq ,dmg audio equality, ozone 5 eq,sonnox, ddmf iieq pro... what eq you will like the most is personal imo.. look at wich one give you the best sound in the less time for a chirugical go to eq..also hp/lp filter is something to consider as they might all sound different from plugin to plugin,i would say it s where clean eq have the most difference in their sound, some hp/lp are way more transparent in some plugs

ozone 5 eq seems really good, a friend beta tested it he told me it s in the top of clean plugins eq but you need ozone advanced to use it as a separate plugin.
all the one i listed above could do the trick..

then you can check less flexible eq, like ssl types ,waves api ,son eq ,psp squad and all that stuff for more specific use, balance shaping, broad bands, boosting some frequency range..

I don't use such a plug in.

I don't use Cubase, I use Logic and use the Logic native compressor for side chaining.

Waves are not bad and they use a lot of publicity tricks. Paying people that are respected in the industry to say they use such plug ins, is part of their tactics.

Analytical listening, A/B plugs in the signal chain by switching them in and out...etc.

+1

most brands have some good plugins ,you have to see for yourself what work for you..spend time demoing and dont polluate your daw with hundreds of plugs..it s like synth better stick just a few to get the best out of it, add new ones when you find one that complete what you already have

I've been to SSL masterclass not so long ago where the guy said that SSL's software sounds almost the same as SSL mixing desk, very close. While Waves coded their version of the same plug-ins on their own, without official support from SSL.

I'm surprised he didn't say the Waves version sounds more like the SSL
Not trying to say the Duende does not sound better, its just that people will say and do anything to market their products.
In any case we have brilliant software available nowdays...

Peace out.

yeah guys like this are the last one to trust, or maybe he was talking about their digital console, then it make sense .
even with their hardware i doubt they match the sound quality of the great ssl console of the past.

but yeah anyway the plugs are great too,the duende are high quality for sure but sound so different than waves than one is not really better than the other, same for uad ones, it all depend the source and the sound you are after but personaly i like more the compression on duende for my use and the overall sound is more pristine to me, waves is more dirty but it s nice too, uad is between both i would say from just little use..all 3 are good and in some case might suit some sounds better than the other 2
