That's because people who can afford it have it, and those who can't, don't.
Simple logic.

Nice shootout of some new SSD drives:

http://apcmag.com/ssd-roundup.htm

P.S. Suppose i get a 60GB SSD drive to run my OS and applications. Will it be big enough? I will use it just to run the current projects and keep all other data on my other regular drives. Is this how you guys are using your SSD's?

When i restore my backup image with the OS and applications/plugins installed it usually take around 25-30GB space.          http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

I'm sure its enough if you have a dedicated DAW for music. I'm also sure though a year from now the 120 gig ones will be cheaper than the 60 now..60 to me is cutting it just a little too close.           http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain_in_a_vat

The choice between SSD and regular HD is basically a choice between speed and reliability, imho.           >>> FOR SALE: Mac-clone OSX86 Audio Workstation <> Perfect computer for Logic 9 Pro <<<

@C3PO:

ignoring the price for admission, SSD drives (if proper ones) outcompete mechanical HD´s in both speed and reliability (on paper and in real life) With trim support coming to all major OS´es within a foreseeable future it is for sure the thing to keep an eye out for!
My pet peeve is noise and the attenuation of such and the last remaining disturbing element in my studio is my HD´s and once again the SSD´s win. Price is a major disadvantage, but cool tech costs money and solid state drive´s have not hit the mainstream envelope and it´s aggressive pricing schemes yet.           Mastering available here:

The reason they still didn't hit the servers and professional workstations market, is the one i've mentioned.           >>> FOR SALE: Mac-clone OSX86 Audio Workstation <> Perfect computer for Logic 9 Pro <<<

Umm did it ever occur to you that the price per GB could have something to do with it.....?

C3P0 with all due respect it doesn't seem like you know what you are talking about.

If you are buying harddrives for a server or a professional workstation you will probably not be buying SSD for the reason that Vegetal already pointed out - the price/GB is staggeringly high compared to the dirt cheap regular HDs that are out there these days.

SSD drives are enthusiast gear right now. That will change as they become cheaper to make, but probably not for a couple of years yet.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

I'm storing my OS partition on 4 ssd drives since 2 years now with 0 problem and no need to reinstall my system because it's being too slow.

Cubase starts really fast and same this for win7 boot.

If I have to change my computer, I'll keep my ssd for the next config.

For me it was a good investment.

Compared to $/GB of SAS or Fibre Channel hard drives?           >>> FOR SALE: Mac-clone OSX86 Audio Workstation <> Perfect computer for Logic 9 Pro <<<

@mk47:

Running apps off a conventional HD while using SSD for boot really makes no difference as i am sure you already noticed. I keep my apps on my bootdrive (i have a stringent backup scheme) and i can say that everything running off SSD´s loads faster than anything else i´ve ever seen. The trick is not to be messy with installs qua the limited space.           Mastering available here:
