I have a soundcard that only allows one pair of outputs. How could I split that output to different speakers?
I would basically like to choose between two (or more) sets of speakers and being able to change the levels of these speakers on my desk (I could of course use the volume of my soundcard if it turn out to be difficult).
Is there a piece of equipment that allows you to switch between outputs or speakers?

a monitor controller would do the trick , like spl 2control or a other soundcard. |

Hmmm that monitor spl 2control is on the expensive side. Anyone have experience with the cheaper controllers like SAMSON C-CONTROL or SM PRO AUDIO M-PATCH 2?
Would they influence the sound signal or quality in any way?

yes probably a little even the expensive one i guess , but i doubt it s a big difference and it must be hard to hear . common problem on controllers like this is when the knob is turned to have very low level you can have difference between left and right balance and the frequency response . a way to check is to record some white noise with the controller in the chain and see if both side are at same level.

I have the SM Pro Audio M-Patch 2 and I'm very happy with it. I don't feel that it colors the sound. It's built passive and it runs without power. Only if you use the headphone amp you need to switch on the power.
I had the Mackie Big Knob before but I sold it cause I did not need that many in/outs.
I agree with PoM that also the more expensive controllers do influence the sound. If it's really notable in normal studio conditions is another case...
Imo you don't go wrong with the SM Pro Audio, it has XLR i/o whereas the Samson has only cinch. |
