Read Oxydelic post, i'm routing the vst to two sends, it's a bit trial and error
And i'm going for the basslines Wizack and DH make lol

Dunno what Tommy does but I don't do any fancy processing on my basslines. Just play attention to get the ADSR settings that controls the filter, in order to get the sound right at the source, and use 3 bands of EQ, a high pass filter, a gentle dip at around 120Hz (depending on the basssynth) and another gentle dip at around 450Hz. The sidechain the bassline to drop it about 4dB at every kick trigger (although there is no bassline note on the kick notes...just to get some small pumping going on) and that is my process for all my basslines.
No Rbass.
No boosting.
No splitting the bassline, unless it is not a 16th single saw type affair, where I layer things, like this track:

Peace out.

Just a single Vst for the bassline on the 16th typical psy bass? One saw wave and no sine sub? Amazing, that must be very nice creatively speaking. From my experience (not much)the gold is in the kick and how u sculpt the bass around it, finally got my monitors setup again a weak ago (been a year since i saw my babies ) and you and Tommy's kicks are just perfect with lots of pressure thummp! i think i got a not amazing but nice bass, gonna try to make a decent kick for it today, i hope

By the way, nice track

fat kick is very important. but little bit sine osc can make wonders.           http://www.youtube.com/user/ChichkeMultiTech

pkicklayer0.2 is so easy and great for making nice kicks imo.

making basslines is the funniest thing of doing tracks imo. i've been experimenting further regarding that with my sideproject Circle. Some diffrent types then just kbbb and those regularz.
Reversing some notes, diffrent vst's, diffrent eq's for diffrent parts of the bassline. Its mad fun. Just try going with vst's u never thought of using for bass is also nice, dusting off some classics u used when u started making music and shit can be great suprises sometimes. It's like 95% of the producers using the same 3-4vsts for making the bass every year just cuz "israel?" use them, its wierd and im often one of them aswell.

cheers!

Edit: didnt read what the topic was about, just did a regular ego search on mah nick.           For Contact & Bookings:

I split my baselines with a technique I developed. I don't know if I'm the only one doing this but here it goes in 3 steps:

1 - I get a simple saw osc and make a typical psy bassline. On the FX rack of this one I use izotope nectar in advanced mode with only the saturation turned on and select tube (or tape). Put the amount and mix at 100%. EQ cut at 40hz.

2 - Copy this bass instance and limit the frequencies on this new bass from 500hz to 3000hz and put a formant filter on it to taste.

3 - Make yet another copy of the original bass but this time make an high pass at 3000hz and put a wah-wah effect with a bit of stereo split or chorus to taste.

Ajust the levels to taste and you are ready to go!
This is my favourite type of bass and in your subconcious the formant and wah-wah will give you this 'familiar' human aproach, after listening the track for a while. I've been interested in psychoacustic for a while and I guarantee you it works

Heres a quick made example:

Also notice how the bass gains a lot of 'click' even without any compression or layered percussion.           Free album out now:

Here's a really really nice, clean way to split up your basslines with the magic of phase cancellation. thanks mr bill!

Yeah man, a single oscillator goes a long way into defined bottom end, just make sure you use phat synths and you don't need any sine wave for the subs.
As far as kicks go, I only use Ultrabeat. It took lots of practice to get here and two album's worth of shitty to average sounding kick drums (and basslines), but hey ho...live and learn.
Cheers.

Peace out.

the kick and bass both sound like they need more low end...and I don't notice a particularly wide stereo image or anything.

They sound kind of 'phasey' too - how did you cut the bass apart and process it?

Kind of seems like they have dips from where you cut them maybe?

thanx willsanquil

Thats my problem. no bottom end, but from the pictures there's plenty of bottom end no?

Bass:

Kick:

From this 2nd try few processing, only 2 send one low passing at 107 and the other high pasing at 122 with a bit of delay stereo

Sorry guys but i'm gonna use u if i can, this time, this is sucking all my creative energie

are you using parallel compression (New york compression in particular)? That can do wonders           --

Ive found Alien 303 VST to be great for Bass

Quite a few different styles can be acheived

Fiddle about with envelope on the synth and also the cutoff/res on the filter

Then use R-Bass, usual mastering and compression

Splitting tracks does seem to add more weight depending on the track I find.

But Ive sometimes found it can be possible to get the fat sound without.

Will post some settings or bass rack I have been using once have checked sound on a few different sets of monitors/rig.

Some great info on here that can save hours in the wilderness searching for that bassline footpath!
