which combo sounds better, RME HDSPe AIO + SPL Phonitor + Ultrasone Signature DJ headphones, or RME Babyface + MyTek Digital Stereo192-DSD DAC + Ultrasone Signature DJ headphones? And still waiting on answers to the above, too....           There is no good, there is no evil, there is only flesh

i guess no one can help you on this as probably no one compared them.. but you need good headphone amp, good headphone and good dac if you want no compromise . there is lot of crap it seems with the audiophile market.. but if you stick with pro audio brands i guess there is less suprise..and you re sure about the quality ,but also sure all your money will be gone

spl phonitor is really overpriced to me for a headphone amp.. you pay for all the things you dont need..meters ,crossfeed ect... it look more like a luxury object to me

I dont know if it helps, but RME Multiface + Presonus central station + AKGK701 sounds like a wet dream.. But Rme is Rme i know, i had fireface 400 too and the quality is as good as the old multiface..

btw man i think i would have stayed with your first choice..hd800 are supposed to be some of the top one, audeze too. dunno about ultrasone maybe these are great too but these are rarely mentionned in discussion about cans for mixing

I took a moment with HD800 few weeks ago, and their are pretty good and unique headphones, but i wont pay them 1000 euros for that sound, in my opinion all snares felt too slammy/snappy in a wrong way, i dont know why. A littlebit same problem than K701's sibilance issue. But right choise of amplifier can solve it from both of the cans for sure.           - - - - -

Taisto did you try the ath m50 yet? really fun cans, the akg feel more like mixing/listening from a distance if you see what i mean, surrounding all the details...while the ath is closer to listening on real speakers with a in your face punchy sound that is more flattering making it easier on the ears, use these 50/50 ,both great both totally different sound caractere .

Actually last time when we was discussing this issue i was planning to go and check those, but then i found myself in a rush (again) and i forget that, but yeah now when you remind me again i will give them a shot in near future i hope, i let you know then how i feel.. even it can take more time to get use to the new soundfield, but anyway i try to put them to serious pressure           - - - - -

Btw, i have HD600 in my house again, because i'm repairing my father ones, and taking my time (of course) .. But now when i A/B them their are much more bass heavy than K701, but little bit boxy on the mid side and lack of air on top, but there is kind of crispiness in the air which K701 dont offer, and what i found on HD800 too.. HD800 have a bigger sound stage very similar to K701, what HD600 dont offer. HD600 sound is like dimmed from K701 but less sound stage, even i feel they are also very present, but i like K701 analytical and neutral wide sound more to my purposes.
In my opinion HD600 are tuned to sound crispy when K701 dont sound crispy if the sound source dont have that..           - - - - -

yeah 701 are very light down there that what give them good mid clarity i guess..it s not possible to trust them in the lowend as there is not much to judge anyhting .. i use cans at low volume though so it sure don't help

it s possible to just use a shelve to boost the low end for correting the cans..i have a console preset on my sound card for this that i check sometime..

http://graphs.headphone.com/graphCompare.php?graphType=0&graphID[]=703

it s accentued by the 7/9khz boost.

5/6 db around 20Hz make them more flat

check audeze in comparason that are supposed to ahve some of the best low
hd800 in the graph too

would really like to try the audeze..some guys say they get really good result with these..

So, the Audeze would be okay for mixing?           There is no good, there is no evil, there is only flesh

Better to use ears for mixing, headphones are just one part from toolbox which is supposed to help the creation.. So best advise is to look for yourself which tool suits best to your hands, it can be totally different than the guy's next door..

So if it just possible to go to do some test drive with headphones the local store, do it and you will feel the right answer, what could be useful for your purposes..

was comparing cans and the dt 880 is quite good too.. it s kind of between akg and ath (it s semi open) less boomy than ath , more low end than akg.. it s maybe the one that go the lowest but it don t fight with the mids..low are a bit behind.

transients are a bit strange..not much and not detailed..kind of rounded

if u plan on mixing with phones which usually not best to do, get the phonitor, its built for mixing, got crossfeed on my 2control and gives good improvement with its stereo panorama spread, but phonitor is another level, that matched with hd800/audeze sounds like a dream, id still take good monitors n room over any day though, but if u got $ for both..
