there have been several scandals and scams involving spiritual leaders and their organizations...what do you think about this?
do u think its okay for the Salmonella and osho scandal or the waco texas and David Koresh, or the Aum Shinrikyo gas attack....
how would distinguish between a good spiritual or a bad spiritual organization?           When death comes to your doorstep, make sure you are alive

there are lot of rumors bout the salmonella and osho scandal , nobody knows if its truth .

Osho always said it wasnt his organization and used to use as argument it was CIA usin people from his organization to blow it off....

imo bad spiritual organization are those organization who keeps speechin bout they carry the truth and doesnt teach people that there are no truth but different point of views...

Apparently at Baba Rajneesh's camp in Pune, there have been accounts of them initiating women by stripping them naked, hollering at their physical short-comings, sending them into tears, and then hugging them and saying "welcome to the family". He also has a wise habit of persuading wealthy people seeking guidance to give up all their material possessions; and hence, Rajneesh himself has what's deemed to be the largest collection of Rolls Royce's in the world. Talk about scandals.

imo .. most cults are the furthest away from spirituality as you can get ... at the very outset when you start thinking about getting spiritual as a group you fail ... it has to start at the very core and personal level. If you cannot establish a connection on your own you may not be able to in a group either.

Wise men "say" ... they talk of things to help you understand the meaning of this life and world and through their words may help you attain a level of spirituality by means of a particular lifestyle.

In today's world of media, a scandal is just another form of mass marketing.... any publicity is good publicity as they say!!

We are living in a farce people .. and we must see into it and go beyond it!!

Peace be upon us all!!

I really don't know how much of the women stripping part is true.
The Salmonella poisoning did occur, i guess they did it to keep existing in Oregon. The government was trying to get rid of their community from Oregon.

Lol, if you have read Osho you will understand he never persuaded any wealthy people to give up their material comfort. Infact he encouraged a combination of materialism and spiritualism. His teachings say that in most cases spirituality cannot exist without some material comforts.

His collection of Rolls Royce was gifted to him by his followers. His followers wanted a collection of Rolls Royce for him. Plus, i think he used the money from the books he sold.

You should read his books. Amazing work. You will understand his intention was never to start any cult, but to encourage individual growth.

I certainly never saw any women having to strip naked to receive sannyas... and I have witnessed quite a few sannyas ceremonies, including my own... must've been Bunte Magazin or something?

The Rolls Royces got sold and the money returned to the owners, at least what money was left, after Sheela ripped off the Ranch... she was also the one responsible for salmonella, this occured in a period when Osho was silent and did not speak for 3 years.

When Osho died, he died without any bank account, stock, or any other money posessions. Most of the clothes he was wearing got given to the people who were present at the Ashram. A friend of mine got his ( at the time somewhat antiquated) stereo system. His library was made into an archive and certain people who market the whole movement today apparently have it stored somewhere. Along with his Ashes. Why, I have no idea!

Never read Osho ,but probably I will someday - neverthelsss - bacause I find it quite bizarre for a spiritual mind to accept accept such an 'overmaterial' gift like a few rolls-royces .
Lots of good known minds I know in hamburg are his followers. There must be good about this from my outside impression.
After a decade i am a follower of the teachings of Sri Chinmoy - who never ever wanted any money and who even on a ceremony where a few thousands souls came demanded absolutely nothing when transformed his mass meditation and played than in it with something like 70 instruments directly into all those hearts.
Minted.
As he lived you could get this books only from direct students - or selected followers ,sorry if it is not the right term, hope you know what i mean.
the actual reason why i came to it is an unbelievable story ,would be nice for a movie( but the protagonist wuld have to be a known name or sth.) however i believe it was the last source to help me in this time - back than.( and i tried it with like sarcasism, after few years of like lyin in dust the book, and pessimism ,very dark thaughts and complete sceptisism supported by conviced thaughts of good bye)
Than light appears sooner as ever possible and all changed like never before.
It works for me and it is a very spiritual book to me and it hits my heart and my soul - the worst is that i am very undisciplined and fall often into too much self confidence or sth like this, but i come regularely back to the source of light.

I actually never was a follower, rather a fellow traveler, and the difference is significant.
The Rolls Royces were an excellent device to stir up peoples egos, and to convey that one does not have to suffer in order to realize onesself, rather to enjoy everything and all around oneself. People had this idea about 365 Rolls Royces, Osho just played along with it, and really enjoyed them. Good on him.           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

yeah i also do not like the word follower really .Read it somewhere here - still learning english. My lack of english skills is a bit dominant in my post.Anyhowz Upavas - if i were a concrete follower of Sri Chinmoy (whose books are my most 'important' ones) I would not be the last day and the houres on mushrooms only as an example.
And no matter what someone else tells me I would ever trust on own expiriences at the very first.
If it is good or not this can only be individual tbh.

+1

I just borrow the part i like or agree with.
No need to be a hardcore follower of anything.

Osho didn't want followers either, he wanted the people to be free.
