Comment: THE SPINDLE SECT
Write-up: Fittingly, The Spindle Sect are as complex as the music they produce. Truly, a collective of poets, creatives, re-incarnated prophets, sirens and musical scientists, manufactured by beings from a world where music has evolved past the point of being pigeon-holed into a specific genre. Their sound is so fresh, it still has an umbilical cord attached to it. its a sound that leaves patrons and punters still saying, `what the f*@& was that?` The hardest rocker will be bouncing next to the most thuggish hip-hop head, united by a music they`ve never quite heard before, but yet they recognise elements they associate themselves with.

The Spindle Sect are based in Cape Town, a great breeding ground for S.A`s greatest bands. The original fab-five of the Sect are comprised of :

1< The one & only Sci-Fientist himself, Darren `SuperSilious` Carikas, a producer extroadinaire(also produced The Rudimentals album, More Fire), whose talent in front of the desk is matched in the beautiful destruction he weaves with his six-string axe.

2< Mr. Opstropoliz, Garreth Carikas, carries more power than a pride of lions of zion in his dreadlocks, and that power manifests in the vocal and lyrical raw blessings he throws at those who dare to listen intently. Some would say the battlecry-voice is a product of too many years of sampling S.A`s finest homegrown, and others would say its a product of a general`s lifetime of leading his fellow warrior`s into battle. Whatever the reason, he demands you to grab your spears, stand up and listen.

3< Snake Pliskin is still trying to escape from himself. A vocalist with an encyclopedia of knowledge to rival Brittanica, spitting tales of battles past, and beautiful worlds to come, with the authority that you believe he`s witnessed it first-hand. Snake`s stage presence is mesmerising, similar to his fellow reptilian-charmers in an indian bazaar. No wonder Snake gets all the groupies.

4< The Medusa/Venus of the group, Inge `Miss Conduct` Schreuder leaves women wishing they had her sultry, haunting voice and men wishing they didn`t bring their nagging girlfriend to the gig. This siren`s satin voice laces and complements the coal-hardness of her male counterparts, leading listener`s sweetly away from reality. Angelic as they come, yet a bite you have to respect.

5< The dark horse of the group, Julian `J-Sims the Simian` Blaauw, has the lyrical intensity of Gill Scott Heron mixed with the vocal intensity of Cannibal Ox. A poet, playing with his words like pick-up sticks, leayving you with thoughts only your third-year philosophy lecturer would attempt to ponder. This man don`t bring fire, he bring C4, TNT, a gas truck and a flamethrower, just because he can.

Together, The Spindle Sect are the personification of music to come. They`ve just released their first CD, EPisode One, and are currently on tour in the northern region of S.A, with gigs lined up at the major venues in Jozi. So when they return to Slaapstad, the whole of S.A will be saying,`what the f@%& was that?`
