hello wizards of psy-trance creation!
it might have been discussed here already, but i hope someone will answer my question or point me at the right direction anyway.
so here's the type of sound effect i am looking for: imagine you put your hand on the vinyl record and speed it up with your finger to an extreme, or turn the engine of the turntable off so the record gradually slows down. it has a very little to do with the vinyl technology, but that was the best way to describe the type of sound effect i am looking for. how does one do it digitally? i use cubase sx2.

U can do this very very easy with the Program Cooledit or how its now called : Adobe Audition,
under effects->Pitch/Time u will find there a preset called "Turntable winding up or loosing power" its exact what u are looking for..very easy  ..if u want to tweak it, try under the same group the gliding pitch ... have fun....hope it helped |

you could also try any tracker.
there's two you can use in a vst host:
berotracker
revisit
or you could try a sampler like ni battery or linplug crono-x. Those two have wicked modulation capacities. Go wild with a clicky noise in a loop and speed it up together with your source audio. no limits

colin once explained how to do this while retaining control over all your tracks (so that you are not obligated to make an audio mixdown to slow down or speed up, because that way, if you change the volume on 1 track you'll have to bounce to audio again and speed up/slow down again)... I just don't know which thread anymore... |

Or if you have cubase, you can just:
right click -> process -> Pitch Bend -> (envelope tab)
Choose the max semitone setting and pull down which ever side you want... make sure you have 'retain original time' unticked - (or whatever it says, can't remember)
and it should slow down/speed up... do it twice for more of a slowdown/speed up
