5 CDs and 3 CDs each. Has anyone had a change to play with these tools yet ?

Are they really so good as they say ?

What is you opinion on making music with heavy use of ready samples from libraries ? What do you think of being completely original versus using lots of ready samples and presets in order to quickly produce quality music ?           http://triplex.trance.net

ive tried kompakt but i didt like it, im halion fan

a lot of artists use samples and presets man, (absynth, reason and halion libraries are coming in my mind now, but im shure theyre more) dont be afraid of them, they exist for that reason to USE 'em as you wish.

dont care about using samples vs making your own sounds, as you get experience/skills in sound design you will find you less needed of using sample/presets stuff in your work....

its just matter of time and hard work

just dont pretend to make a big hit using only presets and samples, thats in my opinion, plain lame....

got kontakt, not kompakt tho

personally i used to be quite into the whole "make all your own noises" thing but these days i do believe there is something to be said for using samples and presets... as you say, it lets you work faster. this to me is a real advantage which gives you logical/ethical reason to support it... assuming, like me, u find u can only work on a certain track for a certain amount of time before u start to hate it, u micro-edit, it gets stale, u get bored of it, and add sounds out of duty and not inspiration... if like me u get the best tunes when u work quite quickly, as the inspiration flows... well, there isnt time to design your own synth, when 3 melodies just spring into your head, u just have to get the melodies down!

besides which... i work a lot with fx, rather than with the synth or sample itself... i always have... if i played u some of my synths i recorded from my MS2000... and then the final effected version... u might not even recognise em... so its not as if by using a preset or sample cd it *necessarily* means u end up with an unorignal sound.           http://www.dartrecordings.co.uk/

atmosphere is my fav pad-generator at the moment...a pitty that it s limited in tweak the noise.

kompakt is, like nectarios written, a scaled down kontakt. if u haven t much cpu-probs, go for kontakt.

I have a hole bunch of respect for guys who makes their sounds from scratch.

As for myself, I realised quite some time ago, that I'm no "sound-engineer" what so ever.
The way I see it, sample CD's/-libraries & synth-presets are a useful addition/tool for guys like me (and for everybody else, who'd like to "spicen up", their tracks).
I've only made a few sounds myself, but I consider it more luck, than knowledge, making these few useful additions to my tracks.

I don't consider myself "a lesser musician" because of my addiction to samples - I've accepted my lack of knowledge on sound creation, and have learned to live with it.

Cheers mates,

thanks for your replies dudes!

I have made some tracks where the samples used were 100% mine, built from scratch and sometimes using only primitive tools (just soundforge, for instance). Some sounds are hard to get right (snares or open hats for example) but when you finish the track, which is purelly 100% YOURS, the feeling is different.

Of course I have observed that going for 100% originality slows you down to the point where the flow and the musical aspect of the track starts to suffer. That is because your ears get used to the whole thing and then the track is dead.

That was basically the purpose of this thread, to find out where are the borderlines (the limits) and the amount of originality that one should go for when composing music, for the sole reason that he might not be able to come up with a good (from musical aspect - flow) track.
