Hi !
Often i build my music over a string chord
which is played in the background troughout my song. But i would really like this chord to become a more atmospheric sound instead
of sounding like a like a string instrument.
I want it to be a good sounding atmosphere but still be in the same "chord "
Any ideas on how i can make this ??i have some options maybe i could use the string chord set with a reverb att 100 % wet or send it to a send channel with a reverb and that the volume on this channel is quite loud.
I hear this amospheric sounds in the background in many modern electronic music , please help me to be able to recreate it.
Best regards Conny |

try to use some evolving atmoshperic sounds / drones .. and see how they sound with chords ...
string patches will give u the same feel . no matter wat u do to them ...
i think u need a different timbre to change th feel of your groove .. |

You can try sending it to a reverb with a moderate to long decaytime. Tweak the synthparameters a bit and/or eq the sound a bit before it enters the reverb to cut some of the higher frequencies and the frequencies below 100-400 Hz. Cutting the highs will make the sound less in-your-face and will push it to the background |

And you can add a little bit of effects like a flanger/phaser/chorus, just a bit to make it move/evolve. And maybe a filter with automated cutoff will help.

Do you own Reaktor?
Green Matrix -> String Thing HS patch -> route through a space master stereo reverb -> season to taste.

Use two string pads that have similar qualities and layer them. Adjust the lfo controlling your preferred filter so they move against each other at separate times.
If this is still not good enough, add a separate lp filter so that it acts as a gate, and so that both pads don't always play/are heard at the same time. Add different reverb to each pad, now you don't just get movement, you should get some spacey swirling atmospheric effects as well. |

Unison... spread the stereo sound through modulation
or add a chorus or flanger and alot of stereo delay (or pitching up stereo delay/reverse delay etc.) use a highpass as well so that the sound doesn't become to boomy (depends on what the string sound is like though in the first place though)
