Hello dudes!

Something came across me a few weeks ago, and I couldn't let it go. The Swedish goverment are proposing a special tax, called "kassett-ersättning", and would apply to all physical media such as CD-R, DVD-R, MD's, harddrives and so on (and here's the funny part, they think it will stop illegal copying and 'piracy').

This tax could according to the proposal, in some applications be up to 800% (Yes, I am not bullshitting you, its 800 fucking percent!!!!!!!).

For example, a noname DVD-R that today could be bought for about 5-10 skr, would cost 40-50 skr, depening on some factors.
These money will go to an authority called Copyswede, and to which all major music and film companies are attached. I.e, all the small, independent labels and hobbie-musicians/filmmakers, wouldn't gain anything from this tax.

Some students at a major swedish university have written a very interesting paper about this (for those of you that read swedish):

This is in all our concerns!!! This tax must not be passed, for it will probably be the end of all sub-culture, and we will all be forced to live in musical isolation, listening to Britney Spears, or what ever mediocre hack's that they produce!!!

yup same thing happened here a while back.
cd´s that used to cost 6 dkr now costs upward to 20 dkr . needless to say i buy my cd´s from germany now at half the price i used to pay.
the lack of import taxes from other eu countries can be a really nice thing

We've had this kind of system in Finland for a long time now. It's called "kasettimaksu" in Finnish.
It's supported by socialists who think that the money lost on music piracy can be gotten back by enforcing an extra tax on empty recording media. This has not had any notable effect on piratism, nor has it helped the artists and labels to get back any of the money they lose because of illegal copying.
It's just one socialist lie, nothing more than that..
