well ok....
1st understand how speaker works
electro magnet moving the membrana back and forward
teoreticly speaker "trowing" sound backward as much as its trowing forward
monitors box usualy build for kill the sound that goes back but its not doing the job for 100%
if u set the monitors touching the wall then u'r room will rumble for sure at high volumes
i would set them like 0.5 m from the wall and set some "sound killing" material between the wall and the speaker (pillow's will work)
anyway remmember each friquency have different leight of wave
as u go lower th wave is longer
as the wave is longer the "sound kiling" material should be fater
for example
0.5m of isolating material will kill any friquency up to ~600 hz
0.05m of isolating material will kill 6000hz and up
its works like that:
wave leight=speed of sound/friquency
hope it helps

Monitors are worth jack shit if you have crappy acoustics in your studio - a problem that's especially noticeable with bass (most people think monitors have very inaccurate bass cuts and they sound more blurred than on headphones - but this is usually just a case of bad acoustics). Technically, you can get to insane levels with fixing the acoustics of a room (placing of the speakers in the optimal way for the specific room, bass traps, lots of sponge-like material meant to absorb sound, etc), and the improvement is VERY noticeable. By the way - lead is very poisonous, I wouldn't recommend putting some close to you (and metals reflect sound a lot better than people would think). 5meo-geo has got good points - he knows the scientific side of this better than I do, but let's keep this simple - here are a few links that will give you a clear picture:
http://arts.ucsc.edu/EMS/Music/tech_background/TE-14/teces_14.html for the basic tips and explanations in order to improve room acoustics
http://www.acoustics101.com/ for loads of usefull ideas including a lot of stuff you can build yourself with a bit of effort
http://www.epanorama.net/links/audioacoustics.html for loads of links about all these issues, some of them very in depth, some of them very simple.

place it vertically.
make it symetric to your room.
make so one is not closer than the second to the wall.
also read some monitor manual online , they are all the same in placing.
good luck |
