Hi, I wonder what some sounds mean. For example

What is the 'kick'?
What is the 'percussion'?

Percussion means drum doesn't it. So perc. is = the bassdrum or what?

It would be easiest for me if you tell me tracks and the exakt time when the kick/perc starts. Thanks           Ut ameris, amabilis esto.

percussion is anything that sounds like another instrument other than a kick drum - I.E - Snares, Hi Hats, Open Hi hats, Congas, Marakash, rain staffs, rim shots, bongos, crashes, cowbells, tubular bells, windchimes, etc. clear enough? (after that explenation by mike old boy here )

So kick = bass? I thought the beat was the bass / bassline / bassdrum

No.
Kick = kick. Boom boom boom boom Also known as bassdrum, kickdrum, drum.. Whatever.
Bass is the bassline - the "padding" for the kick, if we can call it like this.

The kick is the bone and the bassline is the meat.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

Hmm, I dont get the reason for using two words for two things that always come together? (?)

No kick without a bass, no bass without a kick?           Ut ameris, amabilis esto.

Ok. Kick is the beat of the track. it's that knocking sound.
Bassline or Base is it's counter, it gives ryhtem and groove.

goodness Lior! strong words - let him learn for himself! in my first ever track i had the brilliant idea of putting the bass directly ON the kick which i thought was very clever

results - fucked speaker, very angry neighbours (resulted in me moving to the basement), hole in pocket (speakers fix), not a good track..

i think people should learn from other people's mistakes, so they won't have to go through the same ordeals you and I went through. besides, he only wanted to know the difference between the sounds, not how they sit together in a track           "We Do Not Allways See Things As They Are. Well...
Kick bass = Boom...Boom...Boom...Boom
Line bass = The background bass
Hihat = tss...tssss...tss...tssss...tss

When you mix it all you get a magical track...

Isn't it so?

Line bass = The background bass?
Au contrair, mon amis.. a bass line is far from being a background theme.. it's the drive behind the track. without it, you got a nice beat, with no drive.           "We Do Not Allways See Things As They Are. We See Things As We Are" -Ancient Chinese Proverb

to be more specific, a BASSDRUM is a refrence to a low-pitched sounding drum, one which provides the basic Beat to almost any musical venture.
Bass, as in Bassline or Bass Guitar, is, infact, refrence to the Actual Bass guitar from rock, though in trance it sounds very different. both are "Bass"y in nature, but they more often than not, sound very distinct and different.           "We Do Not Allways See Things As They Are. Lets just say that the line bass decides the
speed of the track...
Don't get me wrong, in my opinion the line bass is
the most important channel in the track!
Low freq. sounds are very important in every track,
as the percussion sounds!

You have many kinds of sounds in a track...
But the basic rythem is based from the same
sounds...isn't it so?

not Necessarily. listen to some of the sesto sento's tracks, you'll hear a different-than-usual bass-kick combo. (Ray of Medication being one).           "We Do Not Allways See Things As They Are. We See Things As We Are" -Ancient Chinese Proverb
