Soundcloud listens declining - why?

Hi all,
I have a question regarding Soundcloud plays on new tracks. It seems to me they are constantly declining. I remember when I started on Soundcloud I had very few followers (under 50), yet plays accumulated very quickly whenever I posted new tracks. My followers have risen since then, especially after releasing my album on Ektoplazm, to around 350 now, yet no one listens to the tracks anymore.
My question is this: Do you notice the same thing, or is this my individual problem? One possible reason is the decline of the isratrance workshop forum, it used to be a lot more active and posting a track there would generate a lot of plays. Now it still generates some plays, but not as many.
But there must be more to it, because also tracks that are not posted in the workshop generated more plays back then than they do now. Best example and the reason I write this post is my latest track, it had 12 plays after two days, and around six of those was myself streaming the track in order to test it out on different soundsystems. Back in the day I would post something at night, go to sleep and have 20 to 40 plays the next morning...
One reason could be that most people follow so many artists by now that their Soundcloud streams are so diluted that can`t listen to anything anymore. Or maybe Soundcloud inflated their statistics in the early days to gain traction and now they are back to normal. Or, and this is probably the real reason, my tracks are usually so shitty that my followers dont click on them anymore, hahaha

It could be all the reasons you mentioned. I have found that some tracks don't play / lags a long time before it loads, but it still adds one play to the track, so i don't think thats the case.
People love new stuff, so maybe the general population does not go on it so often anymore. Although there are many many producers and users still active on it, but I could be wrong, cause some sets/mixes is uploaded a week ago and has 1500 plays.
If the quality of your tunes aren't fu*king awesome, well mixed/mastered - or at least sounding great on high volume, then people will loose interest very quick. And they will remember your crappy tracks when you post a new one. You would have seen a play but maybe everyone just listened to the first 10 seconds..
Its not about how many plays, its more about how many liked the track, that little heart symbol, , that is the real indication what people think of your tracks.

Well, now I only put finished work on Soundcloud that sounds a lot better than what I used to put on there, for one because my skillz got better, but also because I used to put WIPs on there for the workshop, and I dont do that anymore. Everything I put up is properly mixed and with stuff on the master buss (I wouldn`t call it mastering, but at least its comparably loud to released material), so that cant be the reason...
And of course you are right, its really about how many people like the tracks, and likes actually went up compared to earlier, but thats not really my issue. The issue is why no one is listening anymore in the first place???
And how is it in your case, did your listens also decline, I want know if im the only one expriencing this?

Never noticed a decline in plays. Soundcloud is getting more and more annoying though. Often it takes a long time before tracks start to play. And apparently commercials are coming up soon. Which blows.

also look it like this , soundcloud is overdone = full , there are so many artist who want to be heard , so producing take time i think its like a journey have patients and it will come when the time is right namaste |

The other thing aje is that with many artist on SC just wants to promote. They don't get the purpose of the community. They will follow you, but only so you can promote them if you like their tracks. Never even looking at what you got, , but not everyone is like that. For me - I would listen to tracks and like them if its awesome, doing my part- giving back u know..
Also note that there are so many uploads that if you upload a track now, in a few hours its way down on the public list. Best would be to upload over the weekends when most of the users are sitting on the site. Or promote yourself even more, on myspace, forums, chat rooms, etc.
Get to know people and collaborate with some to become a part of the communities. Then you will realize its more about the music/feeling/lifestyle, and less about how good your tracks are.

SC does lag a bit sometimes, when i press play its just ... ... ... ... ... ... .... .... waiting ... .... ... ... ...
Could be the traffic on the site.

He means advertisements will be on Soundcloud.
I certainly havent seen a decline, I have 4 accounts and even with old tracks up still getting plays from all over the globe

Yes SC announced they will use ads in the coming year or so. Not sure how it works. But it sounds like a bad move to me.

hey buddy,
i experienced my counts going down since the switch to the new SC. i think it might be related to the switch, cause since then it seems to count differently than before.
to the other stuff, sure might be some reason too. i found posting tracks here and other forums doesn't even scratch the surface of posting in FB groups. this still generates hundreds of clicks over night
ah yeah, have to mention that i experienced posting tracks during weekend is a waste of time. cause of your mentioned issues, the notice will be pretty much lost until monday.... when ppl go back to normal life, doin their boring job, checking mails n scrolling FB ^^
