well obviously im pissed because someone started a sound card thread but no one wil respond to my question and i dont know anything about sound cards so please be patient. i had to write this. my question is . im looking for a sound card for my home pc ive been checking out a few cards the m audio delta 1010 and the motu cards, i need a card that i could use to record a live band(mic everything). is delta 1010 a card that would keep up with the times meaning the specs of the card and how long it would be untill someone starts upgrading cards ? can i use other software with the card besides abelton live. and what card would you recomend if i want to record anything from trance to rock to hip hop ? if anyone answers thank you so much. so so so much. im just trying to see whatr i need instead of having a sales person tell me things just to buy something |

1010 is a great card for what you need. Although I don't really like the Delta mixer software. I'd get a medium-small mixer console with it.

I've used 3 different m-audio cards & had trouble with all of them, one of them being the delta 1010. My motu 828 mk2 has never failed me. If you have the extra cash, I highly recommend motu.
And I agree with -Trip about the m-audio mixing software.

  Nocturnal Wizardz Recs

Pants - is this Dan Hefty?
Yep go the ultralite - been using one for a month now and not a hiccup. Great converters, great price. Got mine for $550USD from JRRshop, with free international delivery to AUS.
Hint - put 'forum' in the additional comments column in checkout for a 10% discount storewide WOOHAHS!
cheers

not sure if it was here on isratrance or elsewhere - but I have read that MOTU uses the same asahi-kasei converters that RME uses...
can anyone confirm/deny this?
cheers

dude... i know from personal expirience that the best way to choose a sound card is to go whit a cd to a good shop that sales them and listen to the cd (take several cd's so you coold have reference)
i recomend on RME or CREAMWARE ... have a good hunt

Not sure, but doesn't the signal from the cd-player in a computer sometimes bypass the Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) of the soundcard ? Maybe it's best to be sure and bring a cd with WAV or AIFF files of reference tracks to test the card.

@blay
most high end cards are using AKM converters - but there are many models - and even same model doesn't mean same results, although almost - it's all in the circuits.
@Boobytrip
When connecting the CD drive to the soundcard via the analog connection, I'm not entirely sure if the soundcard just passes it through to the output as it is, or it gets converted AD/DA as it is.
You can connect a CD to the soundcard using its own analog output - which is the DAC of the CD drive... And which is why it's better to configure Windows to play CD music digitally, and never even connect the analog connection at all.
