hey all. I'm writing this in here, as it gets more views than in the hardware subforum...
has anyone experience with m-audio fasttrack pro and windows 7 64bit? sequencer used - ableton live 8.
the interface works in windows flawless, when I use it in live for like 1-2 minutes the interface crashes, there's static noise. When the process of live shuts down (live sometimes hangs in the taskmanager and only a restart will give me audio back) the static noise stops.
A reset of the card often works, but after a couple of bars in live it crashes again.
I followed the usb guide of m-audio. No joy.
I'm gonna buy a external power supply for the card, that might help according to the vendor.
Now my questions:
anyone happy with the card in windows 7 64bit and live?
has anyone a recommendation for a SC that works in windows 7 64bit?
m-audio announced a new driver, but there's no ETA. I'm fed up with waiting for companies to write proper drivers.
This weekend I will try to install vanilla windows 7 32bit, vista 32/64 and xp...
maybe I get better results on another OS.
this whole win7 thing really gets on my nerves. so thanks for any recommendations

I dont know this soundcard but I have a guess:
The vendor suggest to use an external power suplly... When the Card is only used in windows for standard audio, it probaly has not very much load/usage on it, hence its not using very much power.
When a Sequencer/DAW is used, I guess the Card has much more load/usage on it and hence uses more power. Now it could be that the power supllied by usb is enough for the default audio playback in windows, but not enough for the heavier work with DAW's...
Just a rough guess, but sounds logic to me.... |

I had been using an m-audio fast track pro usb with vista 64 bit and live 7/8 without any problems for about a year.
Maybe try adjusting some of the soudcard settings (sampling rate) and latency in ableton.

just tried the card on my gf laptop.
vista 32bit
works like a charm, but still no joy with my desktop that's running win7.
no external power supply needed on vista.
I've tried every setting in the very meager driver control panel...
so I'm lost. I really don't wanna go back to the pos that is vista.

I have the same kinda shit with AudioKontrol1. I'm fed up with manufacturers not being able to write stable drivers in good time. Are companies behind M-Aduio and NativeInstrumets really that small, poor and helpless? fuck them
Sorry just fed up with that shit.
Anyways back to topic.
Does you card have special Win7 driver Or you use Viata's driver? If yes, maybe try to reinstall the driver in Vista SP2 compatibility mode. Also run setup file as administrator.
Did you try other host? Other driver version? Did you switch of Windows ability to control usb power?

Yeh, I believe that, it works on my gf puter too.
On the other hand, I'm really not going back to vista.
First I hate to get all my vst's back working, the long boot time of vista...
Win7 isn't completely new. What is up with these hardware companies?
Ah, I'm bringing it back, save up some money for RME.
Thanks for the help guys.
Btw: my post on m-audio forum if anyone is interested:

hi makus...
it does have a special win7 driver. I installed the driver in admin mode.
I haven't tried any other hosts, but I sure am going to install cubase for testing purposes.
But for now I need to get a spliff and some beers, as I'm seriously depressed ^^
and yes, I've totally did everything for usb compability. Turned energy saving off, prevent win from disabling it and so on.
set the power options on high performance profile...
all the details on the m-audio forum link I provided a couple of minutes ago.
thanks for taking your time m8
