Hi there
I've been looking around in some shops to find an audiocard with 12, better 16 analog outputs.
Didn't find more than 8...
Somebody knows one?
Thanks

The MOTU 828mkII and 2408mkIII both have 8 analog inputs, with the possibility of having 8 more come in over ADAT lightpipe.
There is also the MOTU 24i/o, with 24 inputs and 24 outputs.
I have an 828 and 24i/o and they work great on a mac.

Hi
Thanks for your tipps, but I need 16 analog OUTputs.
I have an RME Digiface, with 3 Adat in/outs, so could actually think about going for two 8 channel adat D/A converters, but that would be a bit expensive....
any other suggestions.

16 decent DA's don't come that cheap, so I doubt you'll save a lot if you find a card with the DA's you need.
Buying ADAT DA's would be your best bet for sure.
If you want cheap I know fostex used to make 8 IO ADAT to analogue boxes that was about €250 each, but for sure not the best sounding ones....but they work.

Hi
Spindrift, Yes to get fine DAs would be a problem.
But I would need the 16 analogouts only for Liveperformance, so it could be something like the fostex.
It's the VC-8 your talking of?
I thought about it too...
But buying two of them, 300Euro is the cheapest I have seen, plus a RME cardbus interface to use it on my laptop 300Euro, gives me some 900Euro to go...
For that price I thought there would maybe be a soundcard with 16 Outputs...
Fireface is a "bit" expensive as well, and also only has 8 analogouts.
...Wasn't there once a thread where there were a discussion if some of the well known artists are playing live, and why they often bring a laptop and want a 32channel analog mixer?
Than some said, that it's all fake (which is my opinion as well) and others said.. no no they go out with 16 and more channels to the mixer and do manipulations there..
all with adat converters and firefaces and digifaces?
hmm...

Oops, sorry.
Well the 24i/o has 24 outs.
How much are you wanting to spend? There are a lot of 8 output soundcards out there, you could stack 2.

The m-audio 18-14 has only 4!! analogouts the rest is digital.
Stacking 2 soundcards?
As far as I know cubase and most other sequencers don't support that..

i just forget a smalll IMPORTAANT detail.
if your sound card dont have the enough inputs the pach bay is not a solution for u.. only if u have desk wher to plug it.
i think the solution is going for a new sound card that is more suitble for u

Mac OSX Tiger supports multiple audio cards at the OS level to present them to any audio host as 1 "card".
Just make sure you can link them via word clock BNC cable on the back.

Hi
¨Haven't been here for a while...
The mac osx solution seems the only one who could be an option..
the apogee is a little to expensive for me ;-)
The patchbay doesn't help me anything..
because I need 16 INDIVIDUAL outputs simultaniously to be mixed down on an external desk.
Thats for live purposes, since I need to fade-in the right tracks of loops at the right time and need something to touch for that.
Anyway
In the meantime I have another solution. I use the internal mixer from cubase all the same, but I connect a controller with 16motorfaders to have handy control over the software mixer...
I know for most here in this forum it is normal to work with a softwaremixer, but for me it is just terrible,.
I'm an oldschool hardware freak, even though I know well using cubase, i still use a hardware sequenzer to compose my songs. I've allways been using a digital mixer, and am still.
But it has become to big to carry around for liveacts, so I wanted a lighter solution.
For those interested. Thats how I do it now.:
I compose and mix all my songs with my mpc1000, yamaha 01v69 and a couple of hard and softwaresynths.
All songs are based upon loops.
After a song is finished I record each track of each loop, including efx and put them into a software sampler (kontakt). At the moment that makes 5GB of data, over 600 files.
Than I play out these loops from my mp1000. Cubase acts as a mere tonegenerator.
When a loop plays, I decide which track of the loop comes next. I fade it in when I need it.
This fading- in of tracks I would have liked to do on a hardware mixer, thats why I needed 16outputs.
But now I use cubases mixer and control the faders with an external controller via midi.
When I played all tracks of a loop I go to the next loop.
Some may think you couldn't make music like that.. all upon loops.. must be minimal.. boring... no elaborate changes.. or so..
?
Do you think?
find out yourself ;-)
