I was looking for something else and I stumbled upon this.
Haven't tried them yet. They look very promising, though.
Read the help file on the ulysses program. It has loads of useful information.

Ok goin to test this application.
Ok done test, does really nothing nothing
If anyone get his pc boosted, explain me how. Please
Basically i think more memory&cpu can only chane something. I can load right now 20 Vanguard's to get 24% CPU usage. My DAW usually starts with 170mb use from 2000mb available(1gb ddr). So for this application, i find it pretty useless.

The test is used for informational purposes. To really get the effect you should use the second application that is available for download. PCI dawg will tell you what your PCI latency settings are for you various hardware. I discovered that my video card was the one that was really hogging my cpu and using PCI dawg, I was able to change the PCI latency settings on the video card and my system runs a *lot* smoother now. I used the Ulysses just to see how much stress on the particular components running my sequencer causes. Of course everyone could use more CPU and memory, but if you have a 3.06 Ghz P4 and a Gig of RAM, you tend to wonder why your system will have overload errors when you're running 4 samplers, 3 vanguards, and a 2 reverbs.... Sometimes spending more money isn't going to make your system perform to where you want it. You have to get in there and figure out why...           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

clicks and pops...
a common problem with clicks, pops and crazy cpu usage etc. is shared IRQ's .
check them and make sure your soundcard doesnt share one with your display adapter (or other devices that process a lot of information)
best is to have IRQ set up for your soundcard only, if possible .

Mubali, i've read the manual but video card latency isn't much helpful. Whereas other application is simple CPU usage analyzer, the one you have in Windows does the same. I'm not sure but buffer seems to be more memory problem than connection between computer hardware.

i tried the double dawg program, reduced the video card latency from 248 to 128 (i even tried 64) but to be honest i didn't notice any difference. i only had clicks under extreme load and when ASIO latency was set to 5ms. i still had them after using double dawg, so i switched back to my keen "click-free" 7ms latency in ASIO.

maybe it's only worth using it in old systems with little ram and slow cpu.

xrtc, you are doing the opposite of what you should. Use the double dawg to INCREASE the latency in your video card and network card and DECREASE the latency for your sound card. (Latency means delay). This way your soundcard will be the first in line to use the cpu. Unfortunately for me, my radeon and my hammerfall cannot be changed by the double dawg, but I changed the network cards. I saw a slight improvement, but nothing special.
Don't set the latency of your soundcard too low. 96 latency for the soundcard is enough. Otherwise you could cause more problems than improvement. The pci cards that appear to be having 0 latency don't change them.
Cause I see there is some confusion of what the proper program is, this is the link
http://www.mark-knutson.com/t3/dbldawg.zip
Run the program and see what the latency for your pci cards are. Follow the advice I gave to xrtc.
The second program is the one to see what is hapening with your system before and after you have changed the settings, and also has some useful info on pci latency in the help file.
http://www.mark-knutson.com/t3/ulysses.zip

Also, every time you restart your computer you need to run the dbldawg again so that the settings will take effect.

My video card is on 256(more than maximux allowed)
My sound card even not shown up there
My net card is disabled(the one who work with net card online should disable it, or to use different windows users)
My guess is, if there is not RME or M-Audio support then noone really needs it.

UIU,

that is really weird... cos i read the whole forum thread in the first link. also the programmer's recommendations. and i got the impression that i had to lower my video card latency from 248 (or whatever) to 128 or 96.

anyway, the pci latency for my soundcard is already as low as it can get (shows 32 on dbldawg) so i guess i won't be using it after all.

but i still think the purpose it to use dbldawg to change pci latency for video card, from 200+ to 128 or 96. if u read this carefully:
http://mark-knutson.com/t3/dawguse.html
says "Set Latency: Enter the desired latency value and hit this button to change the PCI configuration value. I recommend that you set the video card latency to 128 or 96 for doing audio work."
