| Anyway, 95% of psy is unoriginal. It is my friggin drEE'EE'EE'AAAMMMM that this should change if only the stupid prevailing wisemen on the forum stopped saying U dont need any music knowledge. |

It depends what your definition of music knowledge is. If you mean formal training such as music theory. Then I must say you are a fool. If you mean music knowledge as in knowing what music is comprised of then this is obvious and doesn't need to be stated. Some people hear it in their head and put it down just how they imagined it. Some people start playing until they hear it. Some people do both. I think music theory can support someones natural ability but I don't think its necessary by any means. So music knowledge yeah obviously someone must know what music is lol but theory no.
Also above I was being a little joking about banishing them. Perhaps we should stone them instead? |

you all need to turn that psy off for a week or two and listen to perhaps some 80's or salsa or even perhaps folklore music and then you'll gain focus again...
what happens when people try to get creative then they no longer could be classified and everyone like to be more less classified and say for example i produce trance or i produce rap u got to be in the middle not sound like everyone else but not so abstract that people be like what the heck is dat with a frown...
i dunno but ive been listening to some 80's tracks lately some information society, duran duran, depeche mode and even some freestyle like tka,lil suzie etc... its good to go back to the roots i love break beats and electro tracks i find myself more tolerable to the psy stuff after puttin it down for a bit... otherwise you'll kill it imagine eating the same microwave macarooni every dam day even if it's ur favorite extremes ruin things... try listen to some of that stuff i mention for a bit and then get back to psy...you will evolve sometimes we gotta take a step backward to make leaps peace! |

I do ardently believe that you will make much better psy if you know theory. coz then u can get your imagination down in a flash coz u already know the tricks and know what will work with what. So call me a fool.
U dont need it - definitely - to make 95% crap and one fluke lucky clumsy but decent track. |

Theory is very important. The best music and psytrance that I've ever heard has been created by musicians with long musical formation backgrounds. It helps a lot.
Some users talked about a formula... I think that there's really a formula. It is a highly improved and complex formula for building sound. It works so well but it blocks creativity in someways.
Imo using that "formula" is like build your own music using only pre-made samples...
Listen to other styles of music inspires a lot. Sometimes when I listen something wonderfull, I think right away to transfer it to psymusic, which is not always easy :/
A admire some artists' tracks. They are so amazing, because when I listen to them for the first time it seems that I already now the music. Everything is in right place, everything that I want to ear is there.
I wonder if the producer had a transcendental/divine help
