sure,
this one sound we can not hear, take the volume down a bit.
the other sound we can not hear, try lowpass it a bit more.
that other sound we can not hear, hmmm... maybe a bit more distortion

I think your answer lies with EQ - the only way to iron out those peaks is to drop them in holes, that you cut out of other sounds, across the frequency range. So fundamentals don't overlap. If one part of the spectrum is louder than the others, especially in the mid & high ranges, its noticeable.

Practice with the following, make 3 leads with different fundamental freq's, and cut each with EQ where the others fundamentals are. This way you can realize what is a gradual cut, and which cut is too much or little.

If you play long enough with this you'll hear how they start to blend with one another. Fitting into the other like a puzzle.

Note that this is subtle work, so don't rush it.

..... or am I way off on the subject ?

You dont explain very well.
Id say it its because of 3 reasons.
1: Maybe the samples are out of tune?.
2: All fx/leads/whatever dont fit with each other
3: you have to make room in the arrangement and mix for the sounds you use, so all compliment eachother.

There is no solution to your puzzle. There is only hard work , so just continue           .
