Hello dear Isratrancer, so i looked up the frequency range of my mixing gear.

This is actually it
http://content.reviewed.com/products/10204/specs/5331/freq.gif
After my observations, this looks *F'ing* Weird!

My mix quality is like this:

I always hear you guys tell me how my leads are "thin" or "boring"

THAT LOOKS REALLY SQUASHED AT 5-7khz!!

If i were to actually afford whatever headset/earbud for mixing, same what. What would you suggest?

This has got to do something about my gear, really. That sure does not look grand.            http://soundcloud.com/li-fe

I said I like it dirty, not muddy.

in the not super expensive cans you could get a akg k701 or ath M50 to complement them. 2 different sound but both good. ath is not super detailed but it dont tired much the ears with a sound that is a bit hyped ,it have good info in the low for a cans (from the one i used ) even if it s not flat. akg 701 is more detailed and flat and open sounding ,sound is more sterile with not much lowend

here you can read some review

i would say both is good.. the one to be prefered is personal .
M50 dont tired the ears much for a cans, if you use it for hours it can be something that matter but it s not the most detailed headphone...it also have good low end, while i think the akg is the opposite, not much info on the low end but more in the mids and highs and more neutral/flatter might make it better for mixing but maybe not to use for long period of time...

both are the kind of headphone that complement each other .

i should try the akg 701 soon i will let you know what i think about it if you didn t buy something yet but from the mix i heard coming from it, it s good same for the ath..

i would say try the akg701 is easy available here, maybe at your place too, if you like the sound go for it.. if not try the ath m50, ti s balanced more like club/pa and the soundstage is smaller, and less detailed except in the low

you should try by yourself if you can, its like monitors..
from my research on the net these 2 are the one i would try in first in that price range personally (own the ath already )

Okay, so since i certainly don't live anywhere handy when it comes to monitors, getting these two could be a great idéa! as they both complement eachother, but that's probably gonna hurt a lot in my wallet.

"PRODUCT DETAILS

AKG is the first manufacturer in the world to use revolutionary flat-wire technology in headphones, namely, the K 701. The result is a truly dramatic sound that places every musician at their correct location with pinpoint accuracy. This kind of agility, spaciousness, brilliant highs, and velvety, punchy bass is simply miraculous. These superlative open-back dynamic headphones provide an outstandingly accurate sound and excellent imaging. Try the K 701 and find out what ingenious headphone engineering can do for you."

These actually seem like like a goddamn fabulous idéa to get, maybe i should just try them out myself? too?

Thanks a lot for your reply!!            http://soundcloud.com/li-fe

how did you measure this?

headphones can be a good way to check the mix, yes. but this cant be a good solution on the long run. why dont you want to treat your room instead?           :O!

Measured by google

There should be relatively good headphones that work as monitors out there somewhere?

I can't treat any room because i just turned 20 and live in a rental apartment, also THE EXPENSE            http://soundcloud.com/li-fe

mix doesn't sound bad. just a bit overcompressed. also good reverbs can give you much clear leads. i don't think you need new headphones. what are you using at the moment?           Free album out now:

the one he is using right now have lot of bass , so i would probavbly go for something like the akg to complement it personally, it should have a very different sound that show more details in the mids and highs ,just a guess.

I guess thats right, i should go for it.
But i notice that my mix usually feel very..."tightly fit" as if i managed to squeeze every sound inside that tiny tiny room.

i'm guessing that being able to control the mids and highs more, will help out a lot, reverb is actually nice, but i tend to always highpass my reverb to make it clearer, and then it masks my percussion lol.

I don't even know how to use a compressor hahahhaha, and i'm not gonna bother doing so either, cause so to say, every bluename in here will tell you that compressors are only for sidechaining and screwing mixes up.

But thats just 'cause it's hard to do properly.

This is my studio:

sigh..
well thats a waste of time, cause it one of the most used and common studio tools for a good REASON.

any bluename who tells you they only screw mixes up or they are just good for sidechain IS A FUCKING IDIOT and shouldnt have had any releases if they cant grasp one of the most basic principles in a studio!!

its not "hard". it compresses audio.. aka altering dynamic range.

JUST like anything its a matter of practice!!

dont worry about bluenames who missed studio 101 class and cant be bothered.. rise above them with superior knowledge!
