I am curious , how do you guys categorize your sounds, do you?

Here a starting point:
Hit/Stabs
Effect
Pad
Lead
Sequence
Bass
Sub-Bass
Percussion
Hihats
Clap
Kick

I am currently working on a personal Soundset as a starting point which I could share with friends. Having such kit might make things easier to sketch a idea without the need to search for sounds while composing ya know ?

Especially when composing music with frinds, such kit(s) might be very usefull

sometimes it works for me like this:

-Kick + Bass

------------

-Simple Trance Loop - hihats snare maybe clap
-Complex Loop - diffrent groove then ccOcccOc...
-Percussion - etnic or electronic or just strange , glitchy or plain , intense or minimal.. all depend on the mood and the other parts.
=> twist some parts in evry loop to become glitchy lead of reverbed atmosphere or just change the order to make it diffrent..

----------------

FX: (stuff that is not the actual musical thing but still is the music sometimes)

-sweep sounds
-hits
-vocals
-nature sounds
-reverse sounds
-ufo sounds
-cartoons
-etc. etc. etc.

anything can come up here..

-------------------

Leads:

-basic melody
-Arpigiator
-Pad=>Gated sometimes
-missing notes => create the basic melody out of 3-4 diffrent sounds
-fm Lead
-gliding sound
-tb lead

make sure octaves fit and compliment each other and not clash.. sometimes this can be the fastest way to fix a mix.

finish all this then start the fun , chop , reverse , twist , glitch , delay , pitch bends etc.

no formula , but i i can say that pritty much what going on in some of my tracks

For glitchy sort of percussion sounds mine are classified by onomatopoeias...other than that I'm not very organized about it.           You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

Ok I see so now it's even more clear that all these terms highly depend on the "picture" in our head.
