I hope that this question hasn't been asked recently, i did search but nothing came up so i'm keeping my fingers crossed! well...
I want to buy a new PCI soundcard, one which will easily support heavy use and also have very little latency, but this card should fit my budget of about £500 ($900)...
I was thinking about buying the TS powercore card at first, which can also support the (apparently) brilliant Virus for Powercore. however, i am not so sure any more.
I know this forum is a goldmine of knowledge so i hope that someone or anyone could help me make a choice of which card to get.
Any response is appreciated (unless bad)
From TIP to HOMmega... and all around the world

Pulsar!
Great synths and extremly flexibel.
Compressors and EQ's that comes with it is maybe not top notch.
I got the sonictimeworks compresorX, EQ and reverb for it, but thats of course another $500.
The flexor package for the modular is outstanding, as well as the zarg synths.
It comes with loads of great synths already though, and there exist a group of fanatic developers releasing great free devices.
Kick-it from the guy who makes flexor for example. Best kick synth I ever heard by miles.
Really great fun to work with, but due to it's flexibility a tad more complex to learn to use than powercore maybe.
Definatly check it out if you haven't anyway.
Look at http://www.planetz.com/pulsar for free devices and the very helpful and knowledgable usergroup. |

I use the Tascam US122. It's pretty killa! No latency to speak of.
It has a breakout box wit 2 mic ins 4 line ins, headphone out and midi in and out and it's a USB soundcard.
It cost me R2200 in South Africa so I'm not sure how many pounds that is (I haven't checked the exchange rate recently)
Good luck making a choice! And remember, no matter what you get... your best friend will always buy a better one for half the price a few weeks later. |

i would also think about a pulsar.,
i think that you can get them for the price you mentioned.,
and it has a lot of added value compared to other cards.,
not sure about driver stability., anyone experienced?.

Pulsar2 got ULLI hardware ASIO, which give you decent latency.
Not the supreme card for efficent drivers though, then RME is best...but no DSP.
I think the main reason it fells a little bit heavy on performance compared to other hardware ASIO cards is the GUI, which is maybe a bit bloated....but I really enjoy that it looks great I must say.
After I started using windows XP I don't have any real issues with the drivers on a PC with logic, but some of the early versions was prone to stop playback in logic every now and then.

Listen guys, that man don't have the money
to buy Pulsar or Pulsar 2. I think with your
budjet you should buy the RME card or the
M-Audio Delta series.
All the proffesional sound cards are 24/96
with low latency more or less.
Peace..

I bought my Pulsar2 pro (with balanced out's) for less than $900.
Ordered from germany though, because they cost a bit more in the shops in sweden as well.

Cheers guys, you're contributions have definitely helped in my quest
defintely food for thought.
Plus tried to go hardware shopping in stockholm over the summer while i was there, and hardware is more expensive there, bit of a shame :s
But anyway, thanks again! |

A tip:
http://www.musicians-gear.de is the cheapest for at least creamware and RME stuff.
Big difference compared to shops in sweden and UK for sure.
