hi,

the sound blaster live card is very usefull as it is full duplex!!
you don't need a pro card for 1000 $ to make your tunes!

what is very important, is the latency time.
there are some asio drivers developed for win95/98/ME (no NT or W2k) wich can your sb live turn into a asio compatible sound card!
you then have 7 ms latency in cubase!!!

so.. before you go into the next store and buy a new expensive card, first check out what your current sound card really can do!

cheers pj

http://come.to/sblive/

You'll find here the APS drivers which will allow you to bring the best out of your SB live. Just read the instructions before you install them.

BTW - You'll still need to move on to more serious sound card in the future. As Michael said, this forum contains many answers regarding this question.

psytom: do you know more about the stability of the asio driver on sblive cards?

I've downgrade my windows 2k to w98, so i could use the asio driver.
i was checking the driver and had to determine that it is not really stable. as soon as a program (like reaktor, cubase...) was killed by the system, the driver is for the current win session not usefull anymore.

do you know why creative is not supporting an asio driver for their sblive cards (value, platinum etc.)?

thanks in advance for support.

cheers medirium & pj

O.k :)
First for all let me tell you that this subject
was talked about too much!

I am myself working on SB live 5.1 (Digital) :)

A good sound cards (in my opinion) are:
* Pulsar (2,000 nis) :)
* luna (2,000 nis) :)

In a good sound card you have about 2,500
moduls (like the pulsar) :)

I heard a few weeks ago that the PROTOOLS sound
card is the best but I haven't worked with him
yet!!!

Heya,

First of all, the APS isn't supported by Creative, but you should hesitate using it in win 98. It's stable with all the progs i've tried, and it's only problem is with one or two relatively old games.

heheh.... MichI have that 48 Musical Act :))
Anyway, I think Creative won't support ASIO just yet so easily couse it has to be built in on the card, that way it will be stable. But it costs money, so the SB will cost more? that's rediciluous :)
