Hi everybody
I have a poor sound card and i want to buy a good one, maybe a professional one (not too much expensive). Sometimes more expensive dont means more quality... I need to know your opinion please
Ah... and please tell me if with a good sound card (maybe pro) the sound´s quality will be much better or just a little!
Help please
Thanks

Heya!
Actually this depends a little on what your gonna do with it?
Do you need a mobile solution (firewire / usb) or workstation?
If so - are you on a Mac or PC?
What is your current card?
How many inputs and outputs do you need (analog, digital)?
What will be your host system (Logic, Cubase)?
Just some things to think about.
However these manufactures make good audio cards:
M-Audio (good semi-pro cards)
RME or MotU (pro cards, good a/d converters)

I used to have an Audiophile but then i swithed to an RME multiface. It's much better. It's got more i/o's wich is nice and the sound quality is alot better because of the great converters. |

the emu ones are very good too, they use focusrite inputs/outputs/preamps, have very good software and an entire hardware sampler (depending on what u choose)
and then you have digidesign... The m-box or the digi002 for example...
Motu is great too... And u receive sequencer software for mac with it i think |

For starters Audiophile 24/96 is the best option imho.
Cheap, easy, stable and very descent sound.

i dont really agree on the audiophile, the sound is crap and the latency dito... (usb is not really ok for a soundcard imho) i bought one and was so disappointed, get a secondhand RME or MOTU instead, or save up some money.. |

ehm... but the pci version of the audiophile is really okay, if you ask me. Rock solid and fast enough. |

HI!
I recently bought a RME 9632 and works as a beauty - it is a professional solution!
(In my opinion...)

I think it is much better to buy a EMU 1212m coz of its really really good converters, plus u get some dsp stuff. Price is a bit more, but u get much more for it.
Peace

Agree with EYB: The EMU's offer a lot for the money - even the 1212 will give you enough I/O for a pair of monitors and MIDI keyboard which is enough to start. But think about the 1820 if you are eventually going to want I/O for other hardware... One thing is you have to be patient in learning the DSP mixer, but once you do it's well worth it.

Yes, but now u can use the dsps and vst effects with the EMU-PowerFX plugin, so it is really easy to use them without the mixer.

I have to agree with Pavel... maybe is not the best sound card, but for the value of money and the quality it offers its just ok...
But I also have to agree on the above post about RME. It will be my next sound card for sure! When I gonna save some money of course...
But for now, audiophile works just fine...
