I am starting my studies in music making and producing, I have allready have a computer system But one thing is still missing, I don't know which sound card i should put in that system. i was told about the Creative E-Mu 1212 that is great and also i was told about M-Audio that have good cards. so if somone uses a good card or knows about one i will be happy to hear about it.

It all depends on your budget man..There are entry level cards, intermediate one's & then pro-stuff..It all depends on how much can you afford..Since you're going to be studying this it makes sense to buy a pro one like volvox box said..Go for motu or rme..

how much money do you have to spend?
how many ins and outs do you want?
do you need mic input...
ask your self some basic questions first...

I will always be singing the praises of the Echo audio range of cards. Great A D converters cheap and up to date driver support even for discontinued cards. Have a look on their web site and look on ebay for cheap discontinued cards. Cards such as the Gina don't deal with midi they are dedicated to the audio only. I have a Gina 20 and use another card for midi signals. There are lots of great cards to choose from out there but Echo has won me over on quality and affordability.

nolightatend - i think you need a soundblaster they have top notch A/D converters...
really i dont know which are the best...
but i know Digidesign, MOTU, RME, Echo has pretty good ones...
Btw im thinking of buying my self a Rme fireface 800...but im still just thinking..
i dont know much about firewire and how well it works and how much i have to tweak and so on to make it optimal...
As Motu is more of mac thing and i am on Pc i dont know what to get..
i know to some degree what i want but its hard to just find those things, often you get more or less...
its a hard decision...

nolightatend - of course...
but i did not say anything about A/D converters except: "Do you want good A/D converters"
i can admit that i dont know how they are build and which is the best...
here is my post:
"how much money do you have to spend?
how many ins and outs do you want?
do you need mic input...
ask your self some basic questions first...
do you want dsp effects
do you need midi (doh
do you need good AD converters...
do you need low latency...
ect ect...
what i meant is something like, if you want good A/D converters you need to spend more money...
but i will for sure read up on A/D converters and other specifications....
thanks for reminding me...
anyway there are lots of things i need to read up on.... if i want to be able to explain them...
anyway nolightonthejoint maybe you can check my thread out and contribute if you want to....
and please bring your sense of humour |

Im also probably going for Rme, but which card i havent decided yet... like we discussed nolightatend, i need some more inputs and outputs, but it will get expensive with Rme´s expansion cards, hehe...
problem for me is that i need a new soundcard before i can get addtional speakers, i want to add some cheap monitors to my Blue sky system, but i need more outputs before i can do so
maybe ill go for some behringer speakers...
i need some speakers where i get all sounds from.. its good addtion to my 2.1 system... |
