400-300 NIS won't get you a good sound card. Just about anything will work with Cubase but the question is how good will it work. |

dont buy the sblive! platinum 5.1 if u wanna use it with logic 4.5, i did this and the latency is soooo bad! - also the sb drivers wouldn't work with logic (4.5 only i think, older versions r ok) soundblasters drivers are very 'heavy' and tend to screw with ure system abit.
if u can, i recommend u spend a bit more and get something a little better im sure most sb users will agree, you'll wanna upgrade sometime anyway, after experiencing an sb!
check out M-Audio stuff
good luck! |

Reece, have you heard about APS drivers?.... if not - try the link i've posted. i've tried working with LAP 4.72 + VSTi-s and the latency was 20 ms without underruns |

yeah Bilbo, i tried the APS drivers for awhile, but it just gave me the shits having to convert *everything* to 48 kHz, as the sample rate is locked i know its better quality, but just got to be a pain in the ass i didnt notice improved latency, me thinks soundblasters just plain suck for PRO audio use (mine does anyway!) thanx! |

it's not a matter of taste ... you could've worked in 48khz in the first place: to get the maximum of your card , even with creative-sucking-drivers... and there are much better converters than this with the aps driver (if u work with Wavelab, it's really convenient.) and if you record your own samples, you just do this in 48khz ... not so complicated.(besides this, i believe from version 1.9x these drivers will support 44.1 khz)
now for the latency ... creative drivers don't allow you the control of latency, so if you're short of CPU or RAM latency increases - cause the APS drivers are much faster and smaller in space. i had above 100ms with creative when all the unneccessary things were closed, and i got 20-40ms with APS ... see the difference.
about pro... soundblaster is a soundblaster. it's not a pro card. it never meant to.but for now it's the most u can get for the least u invest. ... AFAIK. u can't get 2nd hand pro card for the money this guy has.
(good midi fx, 4 speakers, optical i/o option for 35$, soundfonts and the drivers that are getting better and better :) )
why do u need to confuse him more than he is... ?

yeah, sorry guys! - i dont mean to confuse even more, sometimes get carried away in threads off the original topic
definately the sb is a good 'entry level' card, but imo, ure better off going without for awhile, saving a bit more cash to get a really *smokin'* card, which was all i really wanted to say in the first place : )
thanx Bilbo |
