Symptoms: Audio clipping in every possible app. (both with Audiophile card and Creative Live) CPU usage on 98% +/- constantly, CPU Temp: 60 c approx.
Tried: Norton Antivirus full scan, both on Normal mode and Safe Mode. Norton Security doesn't detect anything serious.
Full defragmentation which was followed by HD formatting. Did help in the beginning but day afterwards the symptoms came back.

System info:
AMD1800+
Gigabyte Motherboard
512 Mbytes Ram
WD 80Gb HD
Audiophile 2496 Audio Card (Tried to update the drivers also, didn't help)
SB Live
Radeon 5600 Video Card
WinXP OS

Here are some snapshots of the task manager, might help with the issue.

Thanx in advance.

Does appear sometimes bluescreens and reboots?

Maybe it is defect ram, had this problem today with a new ram module, all possible kinds of errors.

And 60c is hot, maybe to hot?            Signature

hmm.,
pavel,

the process list looks normal.,
as EYB said it might be the temperature.,
it's summer
try to switch your computer off for a long time (3~6 hours or so ) , maybe put it in a relatively cool space.,

then, if the problem is there from the beginning then it's propably not a heat problem.,
if it takes some time before the problem starts it could be heat problems.,

< >
i would advice you not to use icq and msn msngr.,
they take up a lot of resources doing nothing.,
</ >
but they should not be the problem.
you can shut them down and see if it helps.,

there is a chance that you have a conflict between the two soundcards.,
try removing one card and see if it helps.,
also, try changing the places of both cards.,

and look on the net if other ppl have this problem with these two cards..,
write emails to both companies and ask if they know.,

also, read the release notes of the drivers ., sometimes it has some info.

it could be a driver problem.,
but it's difficult to say from a distance

also, maybe, you are under attack from the internet.,
then your firewall will be very busy., but it will propably tell you about it if this was happening.,

try if things get normal if you disconnect from internet., (pull the plug)
maybe even the cable is bad and gives errors in the communication.,
this can sometimes make windows try to understand the bad information and hogging cpu cycles.,

and it could be virus/spyware suff.,
and it's just hiding very well.,
but if you reinstalled windows this is not very likely.,

try running ad-aware or something similar.,
also, NEVER use internet explorer again, ok? ,. (just a general tip to everyone)
it can give you virii and spyware when you visit websites!,
use mozilla or opera or something

ooh, and have you changed stuff in the bios recently?

or it could be something realy stupid and easy to fix

hope this helps a bit.,

greets.,
aka.,

Thanx a lot everybody.
Eyb --> i have the same RAM for almost 2 years now, i shifted their places and cleaned them a bit but it was no good.
Still same problem...
ZilDoggo-->
You gave some interestng points there, i'm pretty sure it's not the temperature, cause i invested some good money in very good Thermaltake Volcano fan+heatsink and in addition i put silicone gel, between the heatsink and the cpu core.

It's not a problem with audio cards cause i have them working both without any problems for quite a while.

The only thing i've been changing lately is the digital camera i recently bought. Sony P72. I connect it in several occasions to download pictures and videos. But i can't see how it affects the CPU so badly. Perhaps i should send e-mail to them...

Weird, really weird.
I will continue digging the info.
Thanx for the help so far.
Cheerios, Pavel

"It's not a problem with audio cards cause i have them working both without any problems for quite a while. "

sometimes XP can decide to rearrange irq's because, well, because it's windows., (usually when new hardware is introduced tho)

then suddenly you get all kinds of sheit you never had before.,

there should be an option in the bios that clears the information the mobo is giving windows about irq's
(not sure how it's called tho.,., clearing nvram could do the trick.,)

if you clear this, sometimes windows decides to review the situation again and things can become fixed.,

but most of the time, when it's not a hardware conflict and you reinstalled windows and stuff it is propably some broken hardware.,

Pavel,

really strange problem...do u have any other applications that have started to give problems recently (like games, movies) etc?

if we can zoom into whether its a general computer hangup or audio specific, maybe we could help better...

also maybe spyware removal tool should be used....one good thing that comes to my mind is Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

Hi pavel, well seems like simple tasks like mspaint and internet explorer taking too much ram- mostly it's because of installed software or spyware that messes things up.

download and run spybot: http://www.download.com/redir?pid=10289035&merid=104443&mfgid=104443<ype=dl_dlnow&lop=link&edId=3&siteId=4&oId=3000-8022-10289035&ontId=8022&destUrl=%2F3001-8022-10289035.html

and HiJackThis: http://www.download.com/redir?pid=10227352&merid=6238250&mfgid=6238250<ype=dl_dlnow&lop=link&edId=3&siteId=4&oId=3000-8022-10227352&ontId=8022&destUrl=%2F3001-8022-10227352.html

and after it run regclean:
http://www.download.com/redir?pid=881470&merid=50119&mfgid=50119<ype=dl_dlnow&lop=link&edId=3&siteId=4&oId=3000-2094-881470&ontId=2094&destUrl=%2F3001-2094-881470.html

then launch windows update at http://www.windowsupdate.com and update as necessary- check for driver updates at your motherboard manufacturer website- and for all your other components: Video card, Sound card etc.

start with the above and let me know if it's not helping.

I think i found the problem, and unfortunately it's source is my new digital camera.
I have just formatted the HD 2nd time this week and so far it works great. The last thing i need to check is the digicam connection to the PC.
I'm not sure whether i want to do it, i have another, weaker PC, i think i'll use it for the pictures transfer.

Input: I have tried several spyware detectors, all failed to find something out of the ordinary.

Anyways, the PC right now works well (knocks wood).
And i wish to thank all who tried to help.
Thanx a much.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

And back again

I have no clue what to do.
I guess that it's probably some hardware problem.
Almost 90% sure it's the CPU.
Damnit, gotta buy a new PC now....

As i said before it is perhaps your ram, you can test it with windows memory diagnostics.

Download here:

oca.microsoft/en/windiag.asp

To test the hole system stability let run Prime95, look here:

Hope you find the problem.

hmm.,., if it was hardware then it would be some card ,memory or external device., not very propable that a broken mobo or cpu will boot to windows,
.,
but i'm starting to think this is a faulty driver or something software like.,
maybe you need some special usb drivers to work with your camera ?

if it's working fine for some time after a reinstall then it's propably software.,

in any case, very strange.,

good luck man.,

I used to have some problems with older bus mastering S3 virge video cards. I doubt that's you're problem, but just a reminder to always consider anything on the PCI bus as a potential culprit, and swap out where necessary. And USB hubs are notoriously stupid.
