Hi

I have thousands of samples in different folders, and It's a mess. Is there an easy way of sorting those samples? Maybe with a small program?

Of course you can do it in Windows and listen to them in WinAmp, but that's hard work

and thats another FL magic.
they all appear on the browser on the left, and you just press them and u can hear their sound.
plus you can name their different folders.
but i dont know of any easy way to do it on Cubase =/

Dunno about such a program but you'd still had to listen to them no?

Just listen to them in any sequencer( goes faster than winamp) and copy them. A fast way using two screens can be search: (for example) *snar*.wav --> drag to directory of choice. I had about 4gb of +/- random samples sorted out in about an hour or two using this method.           http://www.soundcloud.com/bandarlog

My tip:

If you want to sort a LOT of random samples into organised folders:

Make all the categories of folders you can think of (Effects, Vocals, Drum Hits etc.) Be as thorough as you want to be, even have sub-folders if you want.. then create a shortcut to each of the folders and put them into WindowsSendto.

Now search your drive for *.wav,*.aiff.. all the formats you have for samples. Play each one, right click > Send To > Your folders when you work out what it is.

This helps i nthe future if you download new stuff too.

Or - if you don't want to set up the send to menu, just cascade 2 windows, a search window for all the samples you can find and a copy of Explorer with your folder structure.

There is no program that will listen to your sounds and tell you what they are and move them for you.

Come up with an organization scheme and stick to it. I label everything with a prefix and I tidy up folders as I go. I started out years ago doing it and I can find almost anything on a 160gb drive worth of samples. Sit down and think about all the categories you would want to have sounds in. Create folders on the drive and start filling them.

I do the same thing with my iTunes folder. Use the comment field to create tags. If you need a particular sound just search for the tags.           http://www.granularmatter.com

i watched a tutorial provided by Video Copilot Designer SFX engineer, he adviced to use iTunes to manage samples.
well, i dont really like that piece of software, but when he showed how to use it that seemed quite comfortable.

as for me i have a partition where all software installed and samples are hold in different foldres from "samples1" to "samples4", inside there are subfolders "voice", "kick", "snares", and so on.

and i listen to them just from Cubase explorer window (when importing a sample).

I got battery synthetic drums 2 and deleted all my samples besides kicks and loops. For single shots nothing is even close, its got all kinds of standard stuff and weird noises all with perfect production. Even if you don't use battery once you get use to the style the kits are in its all organized for you.

Well if u copied samples to the project folder than just go File>Cleanup and select dir with all your projects.. Or if u want to remove media from particular project than open project and in pool window right click and select remove unused media.. Program will do everything for u, u dont have to write down which samples u used..           http://www.myspace.com/djacidkills
