In your VSTPlugins folder, make subfolders for all the different types of plugin you have; EQ, Filter, Reverb, Modulation etc., and move the plugins into the correct folders. I do this to my shared plugin folder, because the one SX makes in the Steinberg folder already has some subfolders in it, and if you give your own subfolders the same name it puts plugins from both folders into the same place on the list.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

hmm, do you move the dll of the plugin into subfolders. what's with copy protected stuff? I seem to remember that some won't work after you move a dll.

what I do, though that's not a solution for everyone:

novation automap creates wrapped dll's. create a folder only with wrapped dll's. This way I can sort them to categories. very clean but this might not be everyone's cup of tea ^^           soundcloud.com/epsylohm

Yup, move the DLLs. As far as I know, copy protected stuff uses references to files installed outside your VSTPlugins folder; I've never had any problems moving DLLs around. Of course, YMMV.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

When you install Cubase, there is allready a VST Plugin folder with many subfolders. I just install the plugins directly into the right folder. It might take a minuter longer to install, but everything is sorted from the beginning.

This is true, however many of the plugins that Cubase installs there will not work in other hosts, and may throw up errors when the folder is scanned. Also, the work you put in in installing plugins there may be at risk if you ever have to reinstall Cubase; plus if you upgrade Cubase into a different folder, you wouldn't want to have the old version taking up disk space just because your plugins are mixed up with its proprietry ones because you didn't make an independant, shared plugin folder. Using a shared plugins folder lets you be flexible in the future.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering
