First of all for those who don't know Sonic Cube which are Daniel M?ller & Ueli Schill (aka Sonnenvakuum) should quickly catch up on history a bit and review their first self-titled
album released on Millenium Records ( http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/yse/yse1cd123.html ) and also co operated with the multi talanted Tobi Writz (Greed).
A very nice release which somehow imo came by pretty much unnoticed, and that's a shame. So what do we get here in this little 12"?
A few special things i'd say , firstly this is the first 12" release from the quickly rising and now a well established label in the progressive scene Tribal Vision (a nice collectors item indeed ),
secondly this is a nice fortaste of the upcoming Sonic Cube's album and last but not least addition is Andre, which never manages to dissapoint.
Review:
Sonic Cube – Cloud Buster
The first most noticeable change from the last Sonic Cube tune i've heard is the new crisp & clear sound, the boys surley matured production wise and for the better i must say.
I divide this piece in to 2 parts, when the first i like less, a rough bassline not much development untill we get to the middle and things look much better from there, at least to me.
The bassline changes and the tune gets a deeper drive proggy riffs flying all around and the groove is on. All in all a nice tune but doesn't stands out much in the sea of proggines
that we are fludded with now, though it does leave a good taste and raises anticipation for their upcoming album.
Sonic Cube – Cloud Buster (Andr? Absolut remix)
I forgot to mention that these 2 tunes are not for easy listening and especialy this one will not leave you sitting still for sure. What we get here is not the usual Andre that i'm used to,
the rmx is much less sublte then what i expected, jumpy bassline somehow reminds me of ticon (Waiting for the knights.) this full of rythm remix will surley make you stretch some limbs.
I know Tobi did not co operate here but the Greedish influence is there especialy with that infamous break...silence...tok tok tok boom, the AA side is just great.
The rmx makes this 12" an "a must" to all proggy junkies.

Artist: Sonic Cube
Title: Cloud Buster
Label: Tribal Vision
Format: 12"
Released: Tribal Vision, December 2005
Review:
Sonic Cube started out as a collaboration between the Swiss progressive trance duo Sonnenvakuum (Daniel Müller & Ueli Schill) and Tobi Wirz (Greed), and in 2003 they released their self-titled debut album on Yellow Sunshine Explosion. A great album with delicious, city-inspired atmospheres that perhaps didn't receive quite the attention it deserved, but still gained some loyal fans.
Now, 2 years later, Tobi Wirz has left the group, and so only the Sonnenvakuum guys remain - they have in the meantime left Yellow Sunshine Explosion, and have joined the most promising new label as of late, Tribal Vision. In the beginning of 2006 they will release the 2nd album "Filter", but in the meantime they've released this EP with a little teaser from the album, and a remix by none less than André Absolut on the flipside.
A. Sonic Cube - Cloud Buster [135 BPM]
The first thing I notice about "Cloud Buster", is that it seems a bit more energetic than the stuff on the debut album, with a noticeably more pumping, almost techish groove. It still maintains elements of the mellow progressive house/trance atmospheres though, even though the production doesn't seem as crisp as some of the most cutting-edge stuff on the market today. Deep and quite emotional, this is definitely a top-class morning tune.
AA. Sonic Cube - Cloud Buster (André Absolut Remix) [128 BPM]
The Swiss André Absolut has been one of my absolute favourite progressive house producers for the last couple of years, as he seems to have a golden touch on everything he's involved in, with his trademark being excellent, butt-shaking dance floor grooves, yet with very emotional trancy influences. This remix of "Cloud Buster" is no exception, taking the track down into a more pleasant, laidback tempo, and giving it a whole new joyful, naive melodic theme, embellished by beautiful strings. Superb remix, one of the most optimistic tunes I've heard this year, and definitely one of my favourite tracks from André Absolut so far.
Bottom line:
Holy shit, this is one mighty fine teaser for the upcoming album. The EP contains two progressive trance/house tunes of outstanding quality (though with the André Absolut remix clearly standing out as being most enjoyable to me) and Tribal Vision couldn't have picked a better release for their entry on the vinyl-market. Highly recommended!
Favourites:
1 (!), 2 (!!!)
Verdict:
9/10

Tribal Vision’s first foray into the world of vinyl certainly affirms that they won’t be slowing up anytime soon. Sonic Cube are poised to release their new album in the next few months- and if this track is anything to go by, we are in for a treat. I’ve always been a fan of their work- but I’d definitely have to say this eclipses anything I have heard from them yet. Deep, percussive and groovy, this track has a nice epic outdoor daytime feel. I have heard some of their other new stuff, and this one is definitely my favourite of the lot- its lovely progressive TRANCE- doesn’t have any electro for once! But for those who are more into the sound- Andre Absolut’s remix on the flip will no doubt please your taste, taking out the trancish elements and replacing them with some electroish leads and some blissful melodies.
The original track starts with a pounding percussive/bass groove that thumps out like no tomorrow- its cool watching the dancefloor work to this… Retains this deep flavour throughout the track, with some nice appegiated trance melodies creeping in toward the end. Up-to-date, tidy production and an infectious groove that will no doubt stick in your head- wets my appetite for the new Sonic Cube release “Filter” even more. At 135, its pretty fast for the kind of track it is- my only complaint is it could have been a few BPM slower!
Absolut’s remix remedies the BPM- but it does loose a lot of the deep edge to this track (which is a bit odd to me, considering some of absolut’s other stuff). But don’t mistake me- this is no bad remix- in fact I can see it doing massive things worldwide! Much more “friendly”, this remix is in keeping with the current trend of electro-house that is sweeping the world. Absolut’s production work is top notch, and the groove is an infectious one again, but in a different way- much lighter and less serious. I hear its been getting a lashing by a lot of djs worldwide, and no doubt was an intelligent move by tribal vision.
Tribal Vision’s first foray into the world of wax will no doubt be successful for them- this release is intelligent and well thought out, with both versions of the track being highly workable for different situations. Its nice to see a release that can make you cry and bring out the man in you in one listening.
8/10
