@undertow
I want to pitch shift my drums and some loops, but I don't like this pitch shift plug that comes with sonar. Do you use this one or is there an alternative within sonar ?
cheers

I tried to give Sonar 6 a go after using Cubase for a couple of years. I gave up after a while though since i would have to waste too much time figuring out how to do the basics from scratch.
Is Version 7 any better when it comes to user friendliness?

I don't know about version 6 but it took me only a few hours to get around sonar.... I'm not an expert yet but I feel pretty confortable with it. I used a lot of daws thats probably one of the reason It didn't take me too long to adjust. Its very well made and if you have experience with cubase or logic, it won't take you long to learn it. |

Seppa, I usually use Audition for pitch shifting. You can put Audition (or any wave editor or whatever) in the Tools menu of Sonar. When added, you can just select one or multiple clips, choose the editor from the Tools menu, the editor will open with the relevant clip(s), edit to your heart's content, save and exit from the editor and Sonar will ask you if you want to replace the clips in Sonar.
Here is how you add Audition to the Tools menu:
1. Select Start>Run, type Regedit and click OK to open the Registry Editor.
2. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in the list.
3. Click the plus sign next to Software.
4. Click the plus sign next to Cakewalk Music Software.
5. Click the plus sign next to Tools Menu.
6. Right-click on Tools Menu and select New>Key from the pop-up menus.
7. Type in the name of the program you want to add to the Tools menu. For example, type Audition.
8. Right-click Volume Control and select New>String Value from the pop-up menus.
9. For the new value, type in ExePath.
10. Right-click ExePath and select Modify from the pop-up menu to open the Edit String dialog box.
11. For Value Data, type in the file path for the program you want to add. In this case, type in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Audition 2.0\Audition.exe
12. Right-click Audition again and select New>String Value. Type in MenuText for this new value.
13. Right-click MenuText, select Modify, and type in the name for the program that you would like to appear in the Tools menu. In this case, type in A&udition. NOTE: the & is not a typo. What this does is add a keyboard shortcut for the letter u, so that you can launch the program via your keyboard rather than your mouse.
14. Right-click Volume Control again and select New>String Value. Type in StatusBarText for this new value.
15. Right-click StatusBarText, select Modify, and type in the text that you would like to appear in Cakewalk’s status bar at the bottom of the screen when you go to select the program in the Tools menu. In this case, type in Edit selected audio in Audition.
16. Right-click Volume Control one last time, and select New>String Value. Type in Type for this new value.
17. Right-click Type, select Modify, and type in the category the program belongs to (such as WaveEditor). 18. Select Registry>Exit to close the Registry Editor.

you can do the same thing in Live just by changing the editor adress in the Preferences, and you edit the samples the same way...
anyway...i got really interested in Sonar now after i read this thread...still not sure how i could fit it to work nicely rewired with Live, like dividing the work steps between each one...im guessing maybe using Sonar in this case for further mixing and maybe some mastering ?
any ideas?

Thanks a lot undertow this is great news ....
The only thing is, I don't find the volume control.
I guess it should appear in the data column bu I can't see it. Am I looking at the right place ?
I've followed the procedure by right clicking on auditon instead and selecting new string value. but it doesn t seem to work.
thanks again. |

Oops. That should be Audition, not Volume Control. The text is copied from another example where the Windows volume control is added to the Tools menu. (You can add anything to the Tools menu).
Are you sure the path to the Audition.exe is the same on your system?

Arghhh i just spent hours trying to write a simple bassline in sonar. I really liked the idea of all the features but it just goes over my head. Gave up finally & ordered Cubase 4.

i sketch almost everything in ableton and then arrange, develop, share, mix, & master in Sonar. It's great, though i'm not an expert by any means. |

Thanks undertow. Problem partially solved. I entered the wrong name for the type value.
So now auditon appears and loads but after I save an edited file sonar does not request me if I want to import it.
Its not a big deal but I'd love to have that sorted. Maybe I do something wrong cause I think all the string value are good now.
Also do you use a midi gate? Cause I don't see any in sonar. And Sonar does not seem to have the same clip capability of ableton. So I definatly need a good midi gate.
Cheers

The Sonar 7 demo is online here for those that want to check it out: http://www.cakewalk.com/support/kb/kb20061101.asp
Warning: This is Sonar 7.0 (and not 7.01 as the link indicates). There are still some bugs in this version but it should give you a good idea of the application.
