I've heard good things about sonar, I wanna try it out. How would sonar users compare it to cube???
In two words? Vastly Superior.
Seriously though, what exactly do you want to compare? Some things are better in Cubase but for me most things are better in Sonar, at least for MY way of working.
hmm as a cubase user im intrigued especially by the step sequencer thats something i missed from the programs i started on (fl and reason) it seems ive become so used to using them that its hard to write melodies and drums in the traditional midi veiws. tell me..(since the website didnt work for me) vst, au, rtas, support? is the sound engine as quality as cubase and logic? What about audio editing i love in cubase how you can just chop, timestretch and pitchbend real quickly and easily

I made the switch to sonar a few months back. Used to be a logic boy before it went mac bound. Cubase didn't agree with me... ableton was fun but nowhere near deep enough for the audio editing I've gotten used to.
The third bowl of porridge was juuuust right.
I'm liking these smart midi tools. It's that sort of thing that makes sonar so damn usable.
Definately one sequencer that it's worth learning inside and out.
I agree, Ableton is fun, quick and easy to work with, and so the workflow is nice, but it has too little editing options. Cube is nice and technical, but sometimes can get a bit tiresom, that's why I was looking for something in between.

although the step seq in sonar is a nice addition (very similar to project 5 step seq) its still miles away of the functionality that flstudio step seq offers.
i'm cubase user for about 4 years now, science cubase SX1, and i never tried Sonar before, but it seems much "user friendly" than SX...
how is the stability of this host? MIDI? Audio? VST? VSTi?
is it as good as Cubase?
i'm thinking to make the switch, but because the undisputed bugless work with SX makes it pretty hard to decide...
i've made some searches for "Cubase vs Sonar" and basiclly i discovered that both sides has fans and enemies, but for so many different reasons that it's pretty impossible to lock on the real differences between the hosts...

so,
Cubase vs Sonar?
Cakewalk are working on the demo version of Sonar 7. I'd wait for that to be ready and see for yourself if it runs fine on your particular setup. That is the only real way to know for sure.
Just keep in mind that each DAW does things differently and you might have to adjust your work flow a bit. The good thing is that you can ask questions on the Cakewalk forum if you get stuck (without needing a registration key). Or you can ask here.

Yeah I put myself on sonar 7 a few days ago. great sound, dead easy to use. it reminds me somehow more logic than cubase. soundwise its the best sequencer I've used till now....
great look too. I like the mixer, good arrange page... just have a few issue with some plugins but most work just fine.
