I've been playing around with Sonar 6 producer edition, and i'm quite amazed in general. It's a combination of cubase and Acid Pro(my beloved one) with greater audio quality from both of them.
While everything i tried is working properly, i have a few questions for which i couldn't find any answers neither from the program's Help nor from trying anything possible to my knowledge so far.
Here we go :
1. In the loop explorer the volume of the samples is really loud. I couldn't find anywhere any setting to adjust the preview volume of the samples. Is this possible somehow?
2. Some of my samples play syncronized with the project tempo and others are not while previewing them. They play in their original tempo. Can this be changed so all samples/loops are syncronized to the project tempo without having to import them and enable looping?
3. Midi seems a bit confusing to me until now. After i insert a midi track and then a soft synth, i get sound only if the other 2 folder midi tracks are present. And in this case i get the sound from the audio channel and not from the midi channel, which means that Sonar is treating the midi track as audio which is not that bad but more inconvenient i would say. So, what am i missing here?
That's all for now. I'd appreciate very much any help.
Thank you all in advance.

Yeah this is really stupid. Anyway, create a bus and lower the volume of that bus. Set the Loop Explorer output to that bus. (Somewhere at the top of the loop explorer window).

I think only samples that are Acid samples or samples have the right tempo set in the headers or are cut to loop exactly will loop in tempo. Sonar can't guess what the correct tempo is if the files don't give any hints.

Yes this is correct. MIDI is MIDI and Audio is Audio.

It is the other way round. Sonar treats any MIDI track as a MIDI track that you can route to an external MIDI port or to s softsynth. (When you add a new softsynth in the synth rack, the routing is done automaticly but you can change it if you want).
And Sonar treats an audio track as an audio track. You can set the input to an input on your soundcard or to a softsynth. (And again, when you add a softsynth in the synth rack, it creates the track and routes the input automaticly).
Alternatively, you can insert a softsynth in the FX bin of an audio track. I'm not 100% sure but I think you then have to create a MIDI track manualy and route it to the synth or route an existing MIDI track to the synth (change the output of the MIDI track to the synth).
My brain is is a bit fudged after 13 hours of audio post work in the studio today ... so excuse any mistakes.

Thank you very much Undertow. I was hoping for your reply since you are the Sonar master
Assigning the preview output to a seperate bus worked. Regarding the midi i'll get along with it after i get used with Sonar's logic.
Do you know of any way that i could add the information needed for Sonar in order to play back in the project tempo the samples that play only in their original tempo?
Also while playing back a couple of audio and midi tracks, i was changing presets on PSYNII and i had a crash and restart. Do you know of any known and confirmed issues that cause any kind of problems(freeze, hang ups, restarts) regarding certain VSTis and FX plugins?
Thanks again.
Alex.

Yeah, i could be a potential new Sonar user but only if i figure out how to work out the issues i have and which are very important for my workflow. Otherwise i stay with my so beloved Acid Pro 6.0

Not really unless you want to add silence to the end of of your samples to maak them loop properly or turn them into acid loops first.

I never use PSYNII so I can't help you on that. Did you have any plugins in the FX bin of that track? Some FX can cause problems.

I know Native Instruments Spektral delay causes problems in my setup. Actually all the Native Instrument VSTs are notorious for causing problems although Spektral is the only one that seems to give me problems.
For the rest it really depends on each plugin
wether it will give problems or not. I usualy just keep track of any plugin that gives me any problems and uninstall it immediately. No point in getting headaches from bad plugs ...
