When applying a 24db cut from 30hz and below with Sonalksis on my bass and kick, the percieved volume drops considerably and the sound thins out noticeably yet there's a 2 - 3db boost of amplitude...I don't get this.
I didn't think cutting those frequencies would be that noticeable and important enough to nearly kill a sound.
Am I doing something wrong or is there a bug? |

No this is quite normal. Either it is because there is a little boost right above the cut (wich is normal) or the frequencies that where cut used to "hold down"/cancel out some other frequencies higher up in the spectrum. |

-are you sure you want hipass them at all ?
why?
-cant low-shelve eq complete the story ?
-can you cut maybe in 40hz and it sound back again ok , maybe not in that +2db zone ?
-does your eq have resonance on the cutted freq ? can you change the resonance ? does it have 12db filter as well ?
-have you tried sidechain to avoid them clash into eachother
-do they have inough power in the 100hz and low mid area and sure not all the power is from those subby freqs ?
-can you live with +2db on your kick and bass?
-can you maximize them together (little!)maybe to gain your power back ?
-boost abit 80hz does not help after cut and get too weak sound ? (it does but the volume in the sky , i hear you.. compress? or use lower volumes in general?)

This is a phase shift. Im dont know why this occurs but this a tipical "specific" are NOT lenear phase pass filters. |

In last 5 or maybe more tracks I use Voxengo GlissEQ only. It does the job for me in most cases(Mostly, i use EQ to cut)
Sometimes, very very rarely I boost some hi-freqs on hihats with URS BLT EQ.
