for the filtered break and drug related samples I said nothing..!! xD unchanging kick ok when it flows and your ears are busy with the other sound that flows, single note bassline I also use but when I know they must be there and trance gates also good thing..
IMO what rule did u broke..?!

I'm doing the following of the DO NOT tings you posted...like specifically these ones...

Introducing the new list of Ten DO NOT Rules of Psy-Trance Production. ...

1. Anyone using samples from Terrence McKenna, Jim Morrison, or Hunter Thompson in any track will be shot and killed immediately...

2. Drop that same stupid unchanging 4/4 kick w/rolling bass line...

3. No more samples about acid/L.S.D. There's a lot of ****ing drugs out there...

5. Learn the idea of "dynamics" in music. The ambient intro, straight full-on tracks with one or maybe two breakdowns, then ambient fadeout formula is old, dead, and crumbled to dust...

6. Stop using filters for breakdowns. Great, so your track just keeps repeating itself every four bars, and then you turn up a band-pass filter and squeeze it down until you stop the music. Wow. So very original... not...

8. Just forget the "trance gating" or at least use it on something other than analog synth melody lines and vocals. Simon Posford & Co. have done it to death...

Ok.. Your'e the Rulebraker.. Keep it rocking, I love your sound.. 3;DD

Why is a one note bassline such a failure?
Listen to zen mechanics or protonica... almost every track is a one note bassline..

No one said it's failure.. But when u have a track that goes 6-7-8 minutes in one note, IMO for me it begins to lame on third minute.. Where's the energy there..??

I really don't like Zen Mechanics or Protonica or Ace Ventura etc..

IMO Azax Syndrom, Bliss, Samy Cpu, Abomination, Ananda Shake, Nature Disaster, Seroxat, X Team, Iron Madness, Phanatic, Painkiller etc..

All pure energy and makes my day extra powerfull and not boring.. But that's not important.. )

yes, but we are not talking about the house music, where groove is everything and is most important.
Psy trance should be intelligent music and bassline is only a blank canvas for the other elements in a track.

For me a gallop beat (kick and bass) is something that makes me to move and I enjoy that repeateble pattern.

What would you say about the progressive scene then?
Albums like lull from Antix or Scienza nuova from Sun Control Species? all songs have one note bassline and all songs are just awsome

Anyone else think calling psytrance "intelligent" or any other 4 to the floor dance music intelligent is a bit pointless? What's so intelligent about repetitive beats?           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

Ok, so what do you find in psytrance?
Only something to shake your ass off?

Intelligent for me means that it has something deeper in it than that ass shaking groove..

The genres have structures which will be followed till they SLOWLY evolve to other genres or subgenres.

Your rules are too unrelated and won't work.

But your inputs were funny, I had fun reading them bro.           https://soundcloud.com/jaadoo

winge winge moan moan

completely disagree with the title of this thread, its not useful or new, "psytrance isnt what it used to be" threads come up regularly

there's loads of awesome music out there, so go and look for it or make your own.

complaining on here doesn't help anyone...
