Something that has been bothering me... CDJ100's

I know that lots of people are fans of the CDJ1000MK2's... however, in almost 90% of the videos I have seen from psy-parties.. No matter who the DJ is (Astral Projection, Skazi, IM, Guy Salama, etc.. to name a few) I see them using CDJ 100's in combination with high end mixers like Allen & Heath, Tascam, Pioneer....

What gives? What is it about the 100's that seem to be so amazing for Psy DJ's that they opt out of bringing in 1000's and get the 100's for a show.... and these parties I have been watching are HUGE venues.. It's not like they can't afford to bring in some 1000's... What am I missing in the spec sheet for the 100's that is soo tempting??

Can anybody help me??? It's driving me bonkers trying to wrap my head around this...           .:~On a Vision Quest~:.

Yeah... all the people you've mentioned have used the CDJ-100s for almost 8 years, and are comfortable with them.

Throwing a new, unfamiliar, unneccesarily complicated CDJ interface into the mix for no real reason isn't appealing to them.

CDJ-100s have been the industry standard in the scene for longer than most young DJs have been spinning. The new expensive toys look cool etc, but they don't really do anything that special. Aside from vinyl mode, which anyone that already knows how to use 100's doesn't care about, Most new CDJs biggest new feature is that they can play MP3 discs, which is a professional artists worst nightmare.

True... but recently i've seen more and more cdj-1000's at parties. I like them better then the cdj-100's because i feel that they are more precise and stable then the 100's: probably a placebo effect and i don't think it's worth the extra cash.

The pitch control on the 1000s is much more accurate than on the 100s, and enables tighter mixes. Also the Master Tempo function is smoother and works better, enabling you to keep tracks in the same key over a wider range of tempos, making proper harmonic mixing much more of an option. 1000s are harder-wearing and more rugged and have a really useful loop function. There's much more too; some of the Vinyl Mode features can be quite fun.

In short, the 1000s are a much more professional tool. If you just want to put on one record after another the 100s are fine, but if you want to really stretch your skills and get creative with your DJing (I mean, you can't scratch on 100s!) then the 1000s are a vastly superior tool.

You definitely have a point there Colin, but most of the time most djs and many live acts that dj as well, don't really even bother to use those features even if the 1000's were there...

If there was more of a public outcry for more than mediocre dj sets, then perhaps more djs would use these tools a lot more, but as it stands we have djs that fade mix their entire set, so being able to scratch and loop isn't really neccesary. Also the price is also a deterrent for those organizers or djs that take their equipment out a lot. I'm certain that the 1000s are quite rugged, but anyone would rather take their 100s to an outdoor as they are a fraction of the price that the 1000s are.

It takes time to get people into wanting to use new technology to it's full advantage.
I've used both and the 1000s do have a much better pitch control, but at the same time I am a lot more comfortable using 100s due to using them all the time as opposed to using the 1000s.

On a completely different note, has anyone used the Technics cd players that rotate... Totally feels like vinyl, I mean seriously like vinyl... to the point where I started accidentally overcorrecting like I used to with vinyl... Interesting stuff...           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.
