well, i guess this goes best in this section. well. once i go back to school, im gonna have more free time to myself, cause i dont work as much. so i think im gonna finish these short stories ive been writing, im gonna start working on a new music project, using my old short stories as lyrics... i would like it to sound like trip-hop/dream-hop(dream pop), but at the same time, be considered as a newer gerne.

i dont really know where to start, every time i record myself playing the acoustic, or the banjo it sounds like the hitting a metal trash can.

same with when i fill up empty beer bottles with water and play them as drums...that just sounds like a tap. my comp doesnt capture the sounds right, can anyone help me out??

PS. if your wondering why im using a banjo, its cause it makes it seem all weird, a banjo mixed up with empty beer bottles filled with water as the beat in the background. im looking for weird sounds, with collaborations, etc.

Sounds nice.
You were asking about how to record the sounds right? Well, you need good quality microphone, pre-amp and a sound card. That's the only solution I can think of.

ah, i get my next pay check in a week, so im goin on some equipment shopping spree. this is my first actaul project for working alone, ive been in a few local bands, never all that great.

i kinda came up with a cool idea, that i wanna try out. now its gonna be hard to explain, but i think im gonna get one of those mini microphones that people use to give out speaches (that you attach to you shirt, jacket, etc.), gonna get that attached to both my acoustic and banjo, probably even do that with the empty beer bottles with water, have the miccrophone attached to my comp, so the sound comes into the comp. if that doesnt work..mm...i'm gonna get mad.

you really need a good room Mic ...
checkout Neuman microphones.
and forget these "spy" mics - the sound they provide is only good for speaking.

Microphones and pre-amps... allways buy buy buy
damnz...
anyways - known soundcards have probably their own pre-amps so you can buy one if you have that soundcard :)
and buy a good microphone - better the one that you don't need to hold :)
check out AKG and Shure

The Echo audio Mona has built-in pre-amp with phantom power, and is a very good sound card.

Bathroom ?!?!?!?!
it has a reverb!!!
if you need a clean sound, you need to isolate from sonic point of view the room you're recording....cover all the walls with carton boxes of the eggs :-),
and many carpets on the floor.

what the? bathroom? what does that do?

well, i did buy some equipment (pre-amps, microphones, a new soundcard, one recording program, a mixing program, and a program that seperates lyrics from a song, and a few other goodies), bout $900 worth of stuff, not a big deal though, compared to my paycheck, and all the hard work was worth it.

ive finished one story. now i have one more story to write, and then i can get down to business. although, i'll probably playing with my new friends on and off in the next month, i wont really start recording the actaul project till Nov.12th. im gonna be workin on this project with two others, but mainly, the music is made by myself. the girl singing is obviously not me. and mixing, well, both my other friend and i are gonna do that together.

i guess, when i get it done, ill try to post it up at this site that im trying to get up, but...eh, i suck at HTML and whatever has to do with websites.

thanx for all the help, and advice.

plus it saves you the time twitching and tweaking the knobs on your sound forge or cubase, trying to get that authentic bathroom reverb! use what you got at home :-)

I'm sure that the other residents of the house will not be happy to find a computer mixer microphone and all of that stuff inside the bathroom. :)
