As you all know these days, all sorts of formats can be played in all sorts of players. But when i play an mp3 in Windows Media Player the quality is very bad. But the same thing in Winamp is really good..
Has anybody ever noticed this? or is it just psychological??. If not, what is the explanation? Something to do with decoding method in the 2 players?
Secondly, i normally listen to http://www.di.fm thru Windows Media Player, but since the link was down, i tried Winamp version of the site. Even though the quality was supposedly better (92kbps as compared to 56kbps in Windows Media Player, and yes, when you click on the 32kbps you get to listen in 56kbps ), the sound was very bad. I had to turn on EQ & set the preset to "Headphones" to actually make it listenable. Any explanations?
sorry for the long (and perhaps useless) questions...and oh, btw, RealPlayer sucks! don't ever use it

i have a different opinion about real player... i use it all the time for streaming audio. actually it's the only program that doesn't "buffer" all the time. with winamp and media player i get very short pauses or long pauses with 'communicating'... :S

i have no problems running mp3 in windows media player, either my tracks, or other psytrance tracks. try to download all windows media player upgrades, and all the codecs, and it should work just fine, at least it works for me.
i also think it might have something to do with the programs used to encode from .wav to .mp3 cause some of them are really bad, feeling up the tracks will strange noises.. |

Lithium: It does not give any problems...the quality is just different in both cases (and remember we're using the same mp3 in both cases!)
Xrtc: I downloaded realplayer gold to try & play some realmedia files (southpark actually ) and it said needs to download plugins to play realmedia files (wtf???)....
so i finally used Realplayer 8 to do the same. Interestingly www.oldversion.com has older version of some popular things...worth a check |

I use iTunes for the same station and get 96kbps, never had any problems with quality.
