Why would someone buy a tb303?
Monotonic old analog machine...

Mike: because the tb303 is analog. VERY analog. And whenever you listen to a 303 line in a track at a party, you dance like there's no tomorrow. Even today, 20 years after it was invented. Ohh yeah, and all of the virtual analog/software imitations of it are just not the same. And about "monotonic" - well, if you can stand a 4/4 beat for 8 minutes and call a tb303 monotonic there's something wrong here

And different than the nordlead, even though it was overused at a time - people always come back to that thick bubbly sound (and I mean acts like The Prodigy, Absolum, Air, Orbital, Plastikman and many others that remain the masters of electronic music), and it shows no need to get out of the spotlight quite yet. The true sign of a quality vintage synth. A synth that people will use long after they throw away their Waldorf Q and their Access Virus.

That's why someone would buy it.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

That's the biggest pile of bullshit I've ever read on this forum.
What you're doing is idolizing a synth, which is not worth it. So some hits were made using it.
Do you really want to compare the 303 to Virus and likes?
The synth is getting old, and unlike wine, it's not as good as it used to be. Electronical circuits are getting worn down, the synth is more likely to stop working, etc. And price is always high. Do you really want to spend a high amount of value on a synth that could break down in 2 weeks?
Today's synth can create sounds more more clear and fat than those old 303.

Mike: it's a matter of taste. I personally still dance to the tb303 sounds more than to any other synth. It's a matter of taste. And despite the fashion today of saying it sucks, I still think that when you talk about richness of sound, nothing, and I repeat - NOTHING reaches the level of the tb303.

Yeah, all of them are old. They could break down. That doesn't mean that I think the sound is irrelevant. I think it's stupid that people prefer to ignore this synth, since it has a lot of powerful drives to offer. And by the way, it's not a few hits that were made. Union Jack, Green Nuns, Doof and more used it in so many tracks that I can't count. And different then most, I don't think something that is older or has been heard before is automatically worse. So I just like what I hear when there's a TB line somewhere.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

this dude is selling is an mc303 , so why bother?

TB 303 is shure essential (actually i know it from the time it anounced) and i think you very right kaz in your respect to it, but there is shure some other virtual EQUIVALENTS that can repeat or simulate its sound or near in one way or other and also 100,000 more sounds as well, so the Q if to have it or not depends on how you like to develope your studio.

if you want a good advice from me, with all the respect, if its in good condition leave it to the synth museum.

kaz, gotta agree with Synthax here.
I didn't say that the sound is bad (or did I? ). I'm just saying that today you can get much more for much less.
The ship Titanic was the best during it's era, but now most new cruise ships are much better and bigger. So we'll cruise the Titanic (nevermind that it no longer exists) because it was good back then?

There's not one softsynth that can immitate a TB303. Sometimes the clones can create a great sound, but it's not the full 303 energy. Until you've played on one, you just can't tell the difference.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

It's exactly like that .
There is something special in this overpriced small
monophonic machine...
As i know today there is a lot of hardware and some
software that just can't emulate this special thing .

If I will give you a real 303 versus Rebirth for example, will you know the difference?

Ofcourse u can hear the difference between rebirth
and real 303, i can hear that in 90% ,
it's depends on some stuff like:
every 303 sound different because today they all
detuned in one way or another ,
every soundcard gives different color
to the rebirth sound ,
but anyway it's easy to hear that difference .
There is some good reason
why 303 cost $1000 today ?
Because it's a rare machine ?
Because they made only 20.000 of them ?
Comeon, everybody just overused this silver box ,
thousands of times and it's still a $1000 synth .

mr. mo-dul, please have respect.
you can post a nother thread about your mc-505...
and about the TB303 - just listen to maddona's new song "die a nother day"...
i think it is a matter of taste - if you like that sound, nothing compares to the original TB303...
