Someone killed psynews :(

I just read something pretty downright awfull... apparently someone has taken the time to hack into the psynews site do enough damage to take the entire site offline... By damaging the site's database to such extent that it can't even be repaired... I wonder what sick motivation a person could have to try and achive something like this...
I do hope karma works... maintaining any site takes so much effort, blood sweat and tears... still some people won't see this ... and it'll cost everyone.
I know not all users here might like the site that much, and the other way around probably... still there is something called respect and free choice. I hope this makes some people think.

The current message on psynews (by Mars?):
Hello
On Nov 24th 2005, 5:24 CET, someone managed to hack the Psynews server or perform some SQL injection on it, leading to a massive data loss.
In the last months, Psynews forum was invaded by a few overactive members. Facing neverending spamming and fights, we had just started active moderation.
This probably upset someone...
Now everyone is punished because of one's ego, we can only be sorry.
We're sorry a 6-year old community disappears like that.
We have an old backup of the database, we don't know if we can (or want to) fix the remainings of the dead one with it.

you even said in public psynews sucked and was a kindergarden so don't go posting here like a hypocriet that psynews is down...

Well, I think Mars should have a backup, I refuse to believe an admin of a big site like psynews don't make backups at least monthly.

Stop turning this into a psynews vs. isratrance war. Has it ever crossed your mind that there are users who enjoy usíng both sites?

I've known mars for a very long time, and have always respected him as a person, and for his unconditional motivation on his projects, and all the work he does on the website, which he has created to his norms and standards. I might have a personal opinion on the behaviour on some of the users on the forum in certain sections but this has nothing to do with what happened here. I've always shared my views in a constructive manner, something i can't say about your reply in my humble opinion.
Mars has even been a guest in my house on more than one occasion.
So please, i try to share my concern here. not celibrate anything (did i really give anything close to that impression?)... keep your bittered comments to yourself please. This is not at all what i intended with my post here, and you should know that.

indeed a very very bad day, i cant believe someone would do something like this. Its hard work to maintain a forum, and its even harder to get lost db's back

This is too bad to read comments like Rain's now.
Anyway i think people have convinced me into trying to fix de DB...this is a lot of work since the threads & posts are ok but the members are gone as well as all the PMs and lots of other things. I'll see what i can do.
