How many people here are angry at psytrance (and bitch about the bad music) because it turned out to be just music and not the spiritual answer they thought it was when they first discovered it.
And angry at themselves for being deluded.

my opinion for what its worth....about spirituality at any rate....i would personally link spirituality and trance are linked through what the message is with which the songs are trying to convey, the thing is most songs dont convey any message....its dance music...to dance to ...nothing deep about , no connection whatsoever....it also comes down to how the song touchs you with feeling....this is often due to the sounds..,and arrangement of these sounds, the power of the sound....powerful musical phrases....powerful "musical moments"...these are thing things which connect us to our own spirituality through the sound...when you are listening to a song..and there is a moment...that makes your hair on the back of your neck stand with excitement...a moment when you buzz with energy(not because of the drugs!),...its those sounds and phrases that touch and activate your very core....i personally think that not enough if not most of the current trance has that power, let alone any power at all, sure big basslines and stuff...but the power to excite the very energy within...i personaly dont think that that squelchy synth sound that everyone has and that anybody can make with simple subtractive synth...is the answer, hehee....
i say all this yet there are still current songs that i find enticing and that which i will listen to a few times...and that i enjoy, but the overall sound of the scene at the moment i dont think is psy enough...we call our music psychedelic trance...we all have these thoughts and ethos's about psychedelica and such yet...slowly but surely we are loosing the obscurity, magic, uniqueness of our sound....
and like all things that have a cycle...psy trance also has a cycle....we have peaked i think...for this cycle....things will continue same old same old....until the new sound arrives....the scene will be driven by this sound and it will happen all over again....everything in life is cyclic...and everything will always naturally strive for equilibrium.....so goes our scene....
the underground is the future!

I agree with you Justin.
In my opinion the whole concept of trance is to be psychedelic,spiritual and also dance off course but some people don't look at trance music this way and just want to dance with it!
It's just a matter of taste and a matter of what you look for in music. |
