the golden age of goa/psy say.... 95 to 99 or so?
particularly, the UK labels. ex: blue room, dragonfly, etc...
blue room had funding from B&W loudspeaker company -- for example, Jan from X-dream said that for their Radio album, they actually had a BUDGET from the label for recording/mixing their work in a real professional music studio.... something unheard of in the modern scene.
Youth @ dragonfly did alot of work in the early years as well, applying professional audio mixing/engineering practice and facilities to some of the music released at the time.
arguably, technology available on computers today replaces much of the facilities available to some of the golden age artists -- but that technology doesn't come with a professional audio producers / engineers to man the controls ;-)
I don't think there are many people who would argue that the artists and sounds on the blue room label weren't some of (if not the) most influential in the genre of psytrance. it's good shit mang! not every single release, but a good deal of them.

Anything mastered by The Artifakt and/or Dale Byl from LMX studios.
Shift's master of the new Slug album is also pretty tight. |

In the full-on realm:
COSMIC TONE (especially his new stuff, and his collabs with Noga and Visual Paradox)
Sesto Sento
Gataka
Perplex
Shanti
Domestic/Ido Ophir
Astrix
Quadra
Save The Robot (Quadra + Alien Project)
Aquatica
Like or dislike their tracks, they all put out some amazingly mixed and mastered tracks.

Thought that the U-Recken album from last year was a masterpiece in terms of cleanliness. Twisted releases of course... their studios are made to push that level of quality. Even makes an album like the Zap sound good.
But yeah, the oldschool analog feel still rules... especially old downtempo Spirit Zone releases. |

I just listened to the frog by x-dream, which was produced during the time of the blue room days when they were being funded by the record company and for almost 15 years ago, you're right the quality is very similar to the quality we're getting today.. great for the heads up! some really good old time real goa.
thanks you bastardsamadhi (j/k I guess :-/ hehe)
but hope to see you at world bridge. |

Same goes for alot of tristan tracks.
No idea why you would call that well mixed. Or well produced. |

They sound great on a big P.A. One of the few artists whose tunes actually have bass in.

Did you hear his last cd chemisphere?
http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/nar/nar1cd017.html
I bought it but didnt play much tracks in a set because it was really alot lower in quality than most other cd's. And that is not just because of the loudness war.
his tracks i usually really like.. just dont like the production quality. |
