SuomiPsy is the drunken Vodka acid madness from the beautiful country of the thousend lakes, Finland
OziePsy is the mad twisted mushroom with acid sound from the countries with extraordinary nature, Australia and New Zealand
-
I've always found these two scenes from far apart to be indelible similer, their both sort of crazy, they both refuse to follow a standard formula about psytrance being 4/4 beatoriented and straight forward driven, they have a lot of adventures and mood/phase/tempo changing qqualities that is more fun and TRIPPY! Which seems to be a key element for these people, keep it trippy and the fun + psychedelicness will automaticly follow.
For me some of the classics are projects such as Texas Faggot, Heltya, Eraser vs. Yöjalka, Tea Chairs, PeLinPaLa to mention a few from Funland. And Odd Harmonic, Rip Van Hippy, Benza to once again, mention a few from Aussie.
What is it about these two contradictional poles? Is it the fact that these regions of the world are so on the edge away from everything else that they have turned mad psy like this, is it the high suicide numbers, the problem with alchoholism? Is it their mushrooms or maybe their liquid brew? Why is it that these two have joined forces so strongly in musical concept and tripper understanding of how sound moves through other dimensions? Can we trace this back to Suomihippies long time ago travelled to Australia/New Zealand and introduced their acid and music, or maybe vica verca? I Think I've read someone talking about this far in the past here on Isratrance, but I can't find the link. So many Suomi artists are released on Australian lkabels like Demon Tea Recordings that Suomi and Ozie are the same when it comes to psychedelic trance music.
As a Stoopid and some what retorical bonus question, which style do you prefer? Suomi or ˈɔzi.
Bom joika Watch out for the Finnish knife!
E. -- I guess a fact to take under concideration is that the SuomiSound outnumbers the OzieSound 10 to 1 or smth.
Might be that my thread is a waste of time in that aspect . But still .. any informative words about this is much appreciated. |

ok lets start with franny 23 , he is DEMON TEA rec. (ausie)
he realesed texas faggott and pelinpala and james reipas and more suomi artists , when it was just the begining.
i remember interview with timo (aka texas faggott) and the same Q was up.. he said he is very influenced from 'old ausie geezerz' like olie olsen
and texas faggott tour in early 2000's to australia and tasmania if im not mistaken.. changing alot of the musical view.
offcourse odd harmonic contribute alot to the wakko ausie party and unformulated trance
also withing the new generation the connection is obvious with labels like giiwa morning monsters and adama and adapted that mix artists with funky sounds from all over the world. speaking the language of music more then home-country based.

here in belgium we have a dj who spins lots of psyharmonics stuff.... he is the key to a diverse Suomisound party here
you can here the influence that australians had on the fins in his sets
It's with psyharmonics...there it started !
and Timo is the original Mandalavandal !!
then indeed franny at demon tea
the tea chairs cd is something that came from that time (that is what i was told). Tea chairs cd is a collection of tracks they made over 2 years in Australia.
You can hear it is old
the very first suomisaundii cd ever made public was :
Flippin' Bixies - Sörkkä Sonic
it's released in 1996 by Magic Mushroom Records
Timo was in his teens when he started making the suomisaundii, so it probably originated at the beginning of the '90s... probably somewhere around '93 or '94...
So people claiming that Suomisaundii is based upon Goatrance, they are wrong, it IS goatrance, only a freeform form of it
I think artists like Shoalin Wooden Men, Insectoid and Rip Van Hippy had a big influence on them too.

Both styles seem to have finally and totally embraced the present clear-cut production techniques over the last few years which is perfect because this stuff actually works wonders on a hi-fi indoor system.
Neuron Compost, Hired Goonz, Reality Pixie ...
Haltya, EvsY, Troll Scientists ...
infallible dance music!
Respect to the ones who started this movement though, musically I feel this is the most developed and creative subgenre to come out of the scene aside from downtempo.
As for the main question ... I really think it's because a majority of these producers got turned on after coming from musical backgrounds like Jazz & Funk. At least that's what its always sounded like. They also used Fruity Loops which has a lovely scale randomization function which works wonders for soumi style percussion.
Bonus answer & sound of choice: A juicy aussie steak with lots mushrooms and cheese and a bottle of Finlandia.

yes finnaly in 2003 lol
some finish artist still make music on laptop speakers and game-boys...
doesnt haltya kiwa and evsy have great quality long long time?
neuron compost defintly from day 1 was great production
and finish sound is always more pleasent the fullon "crystal clear" wich to me sounds more like "crystal brake" screaming distortions instead or nice round fat sound
the last 3 fullon production i had chanse to hear was so painfull and the idiots goes "wowow ha? good production" when it was over limited to levels there is only block of sound with 0 dynamics ...
actualy mainstream trance is lack of real quality of sound , they just know to make it thin and loud wich impress only kids for the first minute of listen www.sattelbattle.com

I wish there was a way to re-produce some of the older suomi albums with today's production.
I was hoping it was possible for EvsY first two albums. But then I realized, fuck it. I come from punk rock and the dirty sound just adds to the flavor of the music for me.
