The Hobbit, I recall was okay, although it was years ago that I read the book. LOTR however was in my opinion so, so boring that I read the first 200 pages or so and just gave up..

TAZ: Temporary Autonomous Zone (Ontological Anarchy and Poetic Terrorism) by Hakim Bey
as for the classics -
The Illuminatus Trilogy by Robert Anton Wilson is good long read.

at the moment i'm reading
musashis's "a book of five rings"
and e.t.a. hoffmann's "der goldne topf"
the first is about the way of the sword
(of the samurai) that is controlled by
the 5 elements (earth, water, fire, wind
and nothingness). the goal is to understand
these elements and to use the information
in everyday life (but for the samurai especially on the battel field)
the second is a fantastic fairytale with
alchemy, witches etc... all the good stuff
written in the romantic era by a german
writer/judge/musician.
oh yes, and for mind boggling chillin' :
raymond smullyan:
lady or the tiger? and other logic puzzles
very funny and sometimes veeery frustrating.

Now we have a topic here that it could be endless...
Recent one that I read and enjoyed for chilling reasons (since this is the topic) was
TROPIC OF CANCER by Henry Miller
Btw I've just started to read
PHILOSOPHY IN THE BOUDOIR by Marquis de Sade(or in the Bedroom, it depends on the translation).
This's really brilliant for those who want to chill and are in a naughty mood |

my favs..
all books by Carlos Castaneda !!
"The Tao of Physics" by Fritjof Capra
"1984" by George Orwell
"2001: A Space Odyssey" by Arthur Clarke
"The Tibetan Book of the Dead" by Padma Sambhava
very good also are "The Last Temptation Of Christ" , "Report To Greco" and "The Odyssey: A Modern Sequel" all by Nikos Kazantzakis....Kazantzakis was a modern greek philosopher..maybe hard to find his books outside greece but sure worth it...
For me there is only the traveling on the paths that have a heart, on any path that may have a heart. There I travel, and the only worthwhile challenge for me is to traverse its full length. And there I travel--looking, looking, breathlessly... |
