Alcyone remains among my favourite tracks all time
Not sure which scale maia is in, try some of the pentatonic scales, a lot of them have a far or middle-eastern feel to them.
(there are some examples of pentatonic scales in ravenspirals guide too, use strictly the notes from some of those to make some melodies and see if sounds exotic enough )

I havent fullfilled by far all my ideas I consider,cause I have plenty to do with quality of that what I achieve in (2 years of psytrance production )to get further.But I think no matter what scale one use if its just one scale in a song than it depends on a good melody more than just on a scale to sound it nice.I think if you want a real psychedelia you have to use more than one scale in one tune and combine those wisely.Thats only my personal views.
