hi Folks,
some years ago I bought me some hardware to do some sound/music stuff at home.
Now I´m getting deeper into the whole thing of music production and I am not sure if the hardware is still good enough. plus I need some advice on monitors.
I bought me an EMU USB 404 audio/midi Interface, with that I bought a EMU Xboard49 keyboard and some Headphones(beyerdynamic DT990)
I have read a lot of info here in the forums about hardware and now Iam not sure anymore if the stuff I bought is still good enough. I have no problems so far with it, so I guess I can keep it fopr at least a while.
unless of course, someone here can tell me if its good or bad...
Next point: I need some monitor speakers, because I cant stand wearing those headphones for hours.
I could need some advice on that aswell, as I dont know which cheap ones would be good enough and can be used with my EMU 404.
I cannot spend much money at the moment and they dont need to be top quality. Just something I can work with at home for a reasonable price....
Any advices on that?

Hey Kryten (great name, i guess you're a Red Dwarf fan too )
Your hardware isn't out of date, in fact MIDI standard that it uses is 30 years old (or older). I have a midi keyboard that is older than your model and it still works great.
So, no problem with that.
About the monitors - it's a wise choice to buy them, since they will make a big change in your production quality.
You can check out M-Audio monitors ( Studiophile BX5 or BX8 series, or CX5 and CX8) or Alesis M1 Active MK2. I'm sure there are more models at affordable price, but I can't remember all of them at the moment. Other users will have to post some other models.
Of course, those monitors are not the best in the world, but they are suitable for a beginner and they will make a huge difference to using just standard speakers. Also, they come at the reasonable price.
Cheers

hehe, you guessed right. I´m a big fan of that great old show
Thanks a lot for the Info you gave me...i searched for the Alesis before, but only found passive ones for which I would have to buy even more stuff.
but now I found the "M-AUDIO STUDIOPHILE BX5A DELUXE" - 199€ for a pair of those. And theyre active, so I dont need anything else to use them....sounds great, just what I need!
Thanks again for the good advice....if I dont hear of anything cheaper/better in the next days I will buy them. |
